With summer in full swing, there's simply more to do: barbecues with friends and family, backyard cricket matches, beach days and what feels like an unlimited supply of sunshine.

It's the time of year when the days feel lighter, longer and busier. But while it's all so much fun, it's easy to get swept up in the excitement of summer and stray from a healthy routine, which can leave us feeling a bit off balance.

Luckily for us, making tiny, incremental changes to our daily habits doesn't have to be difficult. With the social season well underway, here are six things you can do for your health that you'll wish you knew sooner.

Be mindful of your liver.

It's easy to lose track of balance when summer brings long nights, boozy afternoons, hours in the sun, a little more indulgence and, in some cases, less exercise.

Now that the hot weather is here, it's incredibly important to incorporate habits that are positive for your wellbeing.

Starting with your liver — the largest internal organ — it plays many important roles, such as making and storing sugars and fats for energy, producing bile and cleansing your blood of toxins.

Thompson's One-A-Day Milk Thistle is an option that protects the liver and maintains healthy liver function, while supporting natural liver detoxification processes based on traditional Western herbal medicine.

Traditionally used in Western herbal medicine, milk thistle supports bile production, which is important for digestive health. Thompson's One-A-Day Milk Thistle is formulated for convenience, with high-strength milk thistle extract in a one-a-day dose (hence its name!).

Get moving.

Summer is hot, sticky and sometimes the weather can be incredibly (!!!) temperamental.

That's not to say the season isn't truly one of the best of the year — but that doesn't mean we're always moving our bodies in the ways we should be.

Even if it's a quick walk earlier in the morning when it's cooler, evening yoga or a quick home workout with weights, it's important to integrate some form of movement into your everyday routine to boost your mood and energy.

Embrace routine.

We get it, really we do. Summer is for shedding the stress of the year, letting loose and enjoying some well-earned R&R.

But structure is an important part of maintaining balance in our lives and believe it or not, there can be a way to achieve both!

Try setting aside time every week for meal prepping, setting small goals, prioritising tasks that need to be done and rewarding yourself every time you stick to a to-do list. You deserve it, friend.

Prioritise your sleep.

Longer, hotter days mean more temptation to stay out late and wake up even later.

It's understandable, considering how many celebrations take place during the warmer months but a consistent sleep schedule helps keep the body in check and the mind well-rested.

I totally understand that it's a task easier said than done — after all, summer has proven to disrupt sleep patterns thanks to the extended daylight (unless you're from Queensland).

But progress is not linear, and every step we take to prioritise a good night's rest is a beautiful favour to our bodies.

Stay hydrated.

Did you know that water makes up about 50 per cent of our body weight?

Present in every organ, tissue and cell, it should come as no surprise when I tell you that drinking water is one of the most important habits to have in order to be mindful of our health.

Unfortunately, we're not like camels who store water in their humps, so we rely on food and drinking water to give us our daily dose.

During hot weather, it's much easier to become dehydrated or for our bodies to overheat. This is why it's necessary to drink water even if you don't feel thirsty, to avoid replacing it with alcohol or soft drinks and to carry water with us whenever we go outside.

Save yourself the headache and thank me later.

Reflect and adjust.

One of the most important habits is being mindful and reflective, and finding something to be grateful for each day.

Maybe it's taking a moment to rattle off one thing every morning that you feel thankful for or doing a chore every single day to stay focused.

For some, it's helpful to keep a journal to write in every day (or at least once a week — progress is progress, people!) so we don't lose track of how we're feeling.

Ask yourself if there are any small habits or behaviours you could adjust, and keep in mind any changes you're making in your life in order to stay aligned with your health goals.

And remember, progress isn't linear. If you're not "perfect" today, there is always, always tomorrow.
