Last year Facebook was ranked the best American company to work for, even beating Google (who have self-driving cars, a giant slide and sleeping pods, FYI).

People are scrambling to work alongside Mark Zuckerberg, and now the company has revealed the one question they put to every single interviewee. It’s the company’s way of ensuring they get the best candidates – professionally and personally. (Watch: Mia Freedman talks about crying at work. Post continues after video.)

Forget the predictable “What do you think is your biggest weakness?” caper, this is one we haven’t heard before.

The company’s global head of recruiting, Miranda Kalinowski, recently told Business Insider that her favourite question to separate the great from the good candidates is this:

“On your very best day at work – the day you come home and think you have the best job in the world – what did you do that day?”

As you rack your brains for that golden day, the interviewers will be honing in on how you respond as closely as what you respond with. (Post continues after gallery.)

The simple question apparently gives them a chance to see first-hand the pride and purpose potential employees take in their work.

They then determine whether the answer fits in with the culture and people at Facebook. No pressure. Whatsoever.

While it’s not a question asked to absolutely everyone, Kalinowski has some further advice if you’re looking to apply for a job with the company.

While it’s Facebook specific, it’s also a useful exercise to apply to any interview or even your own personal evaluation of how you’re doing and enjoying your current job.

She encourages candidates to ask themselves what they do when they lose track of time at work. It’s a great way to identify the tasks you genuinely enjoy doing and are likely talented at.

FYI, lunch probably doesn’t count.
