Beans mean ... you could win $10,000 from Heinz

This competition is now closed.  Well done to our winners Stretchy Princess and Rainbow.

Mia writes: welcome to a sponsored post from HEINZ BEANZ®  and your chance to win $10,000 in the What do HEINZ BEANZ® mean to you competition.  I’ll hand you straight over to Lana to tell you more.

My life at the moment can be measured in degrees of Masterchef. When I am not watching it I’m either thinking about it or playing it. Watching other people cook and enjoy food has given my child a whole new perspective on eating.  He is not averse to donning a makeshift cravat and giving my food the Matt Preston treatment. He eyes it carefully, tastes it willingly and chews it slowly and thoughtfully.  I can even handle it when my “score” is low (and believe me it is often lower than the decimal system provides for) because I just I love it when he eats at all – and when he enjoys his food, it’s heaven.

Truth be told he is impossible when it comes to eating which is why everything that I feed him needs to be carefully thought out, it could well be the last thing he eats in a day, even if it’s breakfast.  It is because of this that he was more or less brought up on baked beans.  HEINZ BEANZ® are 99% fat free, high in protein, high in dietary fibre, low GI, low in saturated fat, low in sugar, a source of iron, a great source of folate (a water-soluble B vitamin that occurs naturally in food)  and  lycopene (an antioxidant compound).  That is pretty much all the incentive I needed to get him munching on baked beans but add to that mix that you can prepare a dinner of baked beans on toast and only have one plate to wash up? I was sold .

But back to Masterchef.  One of the other joys of being addicted to this cult cooking show  is the range of activities and inventiveness it brings to dinners.  I have prepared for my family and friends my signature dish (pumpkin salad with macadamias), the meal that rekindled memories of my childhood (mash potato with anything) , the meal that changed my life (vegetarian laksa), and countless other Masterchef inspired meals – not to mention the many mystery box dinners (rummaging in the cupboard for random ingredients- often baked beans). It has also given us reason to really think about our food, which is timely because HEINZ BEANZ® are asking us to think about what their beans mean to us? And when I say us I mean you.

All you have to do is think about what HEINZ BEANZ® meanz to you and then click on the HEINZ BEANZ®  website here to enter the competition for your  chance to win one of ten $10,000 prizes. Plus, winners will have their story printed on a limited edition can that will be sold Australia-wide. I would strongly suggest you check out the site – I am embarrassed to say I have had hours of fun dressing up baked beans (there are some really cool interactives on the site – check out this one) and designing tins of HEINZ BEANZ®.
