This, as we all know, is Zooey Deschanel.
A solid and smoky eyeliner, a perfectly wispy fringe an occasional bright lip:
Imagine our surprise, then, when the internet tried to tell us this person was Zooey Deschanel, too:

Those two people... yes, those two people... are the same person.
You see, that second photo has recently resurfaced on Reddit, after first being snapped in 2013 at the Met Gala.
Seeing Zooey Deschanel without bangs and glasses made me realize how nobody knew Clark Kent was Superman from r/pics
Because believe it or not, there was an - albeit fleeting - point in time, where Deschanel's forehead wasn't covered in the perfectly cut fringe.
In a piece for Glamour in 2013, the actress explained her deep love for bangs and why they are now so intrinsic to her idenity.
"You could say that I'm hooked on bangs. Would I ever give them up? I have, and I might again—for a role, perhaps—but I really don't feel like myself without them. When I first got into acting, I was a bit of a chameleon and just wasn't recognizable. So I used my look to help create an identity. Now people know me as the girl with bangs. They're not for everyone…but they work for me," she wrote at the time.
She went on to say it all began at aged two, when a hairdresser "lopped off the front of [her] waves into girly, face-framing fringe".
"I've had bangs for most of my life since. I was way more into doing my hair and makeup than my older sister, Emily. She was no makeup, all combat boots and dresses (it was the mid-nineties). I, on the other hand, have always been particular about my hair: I love having it long. Cutting it, aside from my bangs, would feel like making a sacrifice. I've tried growing out my bangs a few times, but it's never stuck. They've been styled into all sorts of shapes and lengths. Now I'm very specific about how they look and feel."
Next time she decides to lop them off, or pin them back, we request - at the very least - a name tag.
