There seems to be two types of people in the world: The ones who actively sign up to reality television shows, and the ones who manage to hold themselves so well in public that random producers approach them in the street and ask them to sign up.
Xavier from Married at First Sight is one of the latter types. Except he wasn’t just walking down the street when he was scouted, he was sitting in a cafe.
In an interview with PopSugar, Xavier explained that the opportunity to appear on the show wasn’t one he actively sought, but rather one that fell into his lap.
“Funnily enough, I didn’t proactively sign up. I was in a cafe with a friend of mine and I guess part of [the show’s] casting process is street casting, so yeah I was actually street cast.
Watch Xavier and Simone discuss their wedding and how they are feeling about each other. (Post continues after video.)
“To me, it was like fate. I was meant to be there at that point,” he said.
I mean, sure. Most of us frequent cafes quite a bit and most of us aren’t scouted for reality TV but let’s put this one down to fate, and not the fact the 26-year-old is a former football player who is relatively easy to look at.
So did he hesitate? Surely it would be quite an overwhelming experience.
“No, I actually thought, this could be a really great opportunity to be part of an experiment like this,” he said.
“I thought about it for a couple of days and then said, ‘You know what, I’d regret it more if I didn’t do it.’ If I said no to it, then watched the show and it worked out really well for somenone else I might’ve thought, ‘That could’ve been me’. I’m that kind of person, I think.”
