Would this make a teenager use contraception?

The best way to prevent teen pregnancy is to educate teens. Talk to them about contraception, maybe even a little biology, you might even want to check they have all their “where do babies come from” facts straight. Right?

Not according to the city of New York. They seem to be opting directly for the shame attached to teen pregnancy. In fact they have spent two years and more than $400,000 developing a new campaign to prevent teen pregnancy. The posters, which recently launched in train stations and bus shelters, feature pictures of distraught children with messages like "Dad, you'll be paying to support me for the next 20 years," and "Honestly Mom… chances are he won't stay with you. What happens to me?"

The posters offer statistics about how teen parents and their kids are essentially doomed. They then direct people to a text messagebased game about a pregnant teen.

What they don’t do is provide any information on how one might avoid this "terrible fate"

Do you think it's an effective way to get the message about teen pregnancy across to teens?
