Awkward: Today weatherman offers woman $1,000. Woman says no thanks.

Australia: a country where things rarely make sense and people don’t always care for free money can easily be found.

At least that’s what it seemed like to those viewing this morning’s edition of Channel 9’s Today Show.

As part of the channel’s ‘Random Acts of Cash’ segment, weatherman Stevie Jacobs approached a woman with $1,000 cash in his hand, saying, “There is $1,000!”

Confused and clearly keen to be away from the live television camera, the woman kept her head down before Jacobs continued, "You’re on your way to work this morning or school?”

But seemingly uncomfortable with having an unknown man wave cash in her face first thing in the morning, the woman said no and shook her head several times before successfully walking away from Jacobs.

Watch the video here. It's really, really awkward. (Post continues after video.)

Somewhat baffled as to what was going on and clearly not understanding who in their right mind would say no to a free handful of bills, Jacobs asked, “You don’t want it? Really?"

"It’s real money” Jacobs reassured her before following her to the bus stop.

And as though the Monopoly Man himself had heard Jacob's magic cries, a slightly dazed gentleman suddenly appeared, croaking, “I’ll take it!”

With little option but to go with it, Jacobs then asked the man the ultimate are-you-worthy-of-this-rejected-free-cash question. “What would you do with $1,000 that’s just been knocked back by somebody else?”

Thinking of the bath of Moet he was soon to be swimming in, the man replied without skipping a beat, “Spend it well."

And with that, the unidentified legend can be seen pocketing the cash and giving the camera a thumbs up.

“You’re a very lucky man,” Jacobs said over the laughs of his studio colleagues.

“I have never seen that before”.
