1. Woman disguised herself as a man to kill sister with crockpot.

A woman wore a fake beard and wig to disguise herself as a man before beating her half-sister to death with a casserole dish in the UK.

Yvonne Caylor wore a ginger wig, fake goatee, hi-vis jacket and glasses when she murdered Nicola Collingbourne, 26.

CCTV footage shows Caylor wearing the crude disguise as walks to her sister’s front door before the murder, The Sun reports.

The 53-year-old slashed Collingbourne’s wrists to make it look like a suicide before fleeing.

A jury took seven hours to find her guilty of murder at Luton Crown Court in the UK after hearing these details as well as the alleged motivation for the crime.

Jurors heard how Caylor, from Hitchin, Herts, had stolen several items from flat she used to share with Collingbourne before she was evicted in October 2015.

She was later arrested on suspicion of burglary and is alleged to have tried to get Collingbourne to drop the charges.

Caylor, who insisted it wasn’t her in the disguise, will be sentenced at a later date.

2. Car bomb attack on Australian Christian Lobby overnight.

Members of the Australian Christian Lobby group are “shocked” after a van carrying gas bottles was driven into their headquarters in Canberra last night and set alight, causing an explosion.

No staff were injured in the explosion according to the lobby’s managing director Lyle Shelton, who last night tweeted a photograph of the incident.

“A vehicle has rammed our office in Canberra & exploded all staff are safe,” he wrote.

“I do not know the condition of the driver. Prayers appreciated.”

A man is believed to have driven the white van towards the Eternity House building about 10.45pm, The Daily Telegraph reports.

The explosion destroyed the vehicle and blew out some of the windows of the office building.

Australian Capital Territory Police are investigating and confirmed no one was injured when a vehicle was driven towards the front of the building.

No arrests have been made but it is believed the alleged driver of the van is receiving medical attention.

In a later tweet, Mr Shelton said he was “shocked that this could happen in Australia”.

“We have had the normal trolls on social media and even had death threats sent to our Canberra office over the year but I am very concerned someone would do this,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

3. Three-year-old girl found safe after being taken in stolen car.

A girl taken in a carjacking in Queensland’s southeast is safe with her family as police continue to hunt for the man responsible.

The three-year-old was in the car with her mother and older sister in a Laidley car park on Wednesday night when an unknown man dragged the mother from the driver’s seat by her hair, Australian Associated Press reports.

The 41-year-old woman was able to pull her 10-year-old daughter from the car, but the man sped away with the three-year-old still trapped in her car seat.

Thankfully, the driver stopped the car nearby and left the girl unharmed on the side of the road.

Police are still hunting for the man and the car.

4. Killer Berlin truck driver identified as manhunt continues.

Police have identified Anis Amri as the new suspect in the Berlin market attack – a 24-year-old Tunisian national, who should be considered “armed and dangerous”.

Police are searching for Amri in the North Rhine-Westphalia district south-west of Berlin, three German newspapers report.

A truck was deliberately driven into a crowd at the Christmas market at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church at Breitscheidplatz, killing 12 people and injured 48 others on Monday.

According to the reports, documents from Germany’s asylum seeker office were found in the truck.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere confirmed that authorities had identified a new suspect, but said this man was “not necessarily” the driver.

5. Model killed by carbon monoxide poisoning.

A European model was killed by carbon monoxide poisoning from a faulty boiler, according to police.

Natalia Makey, 44, was found dead in her flat in the Belarus capital city of Minsk, The Sun reports.

The model had returned from Krakow in Poland and her husband had raised the alarm when he couldn’t contact her.

Neighbours reported the smell of gas when she died on December 15.

Police say there’s no evidence she was suicidal and believe her boiler was broken.

6. Female doctors are better, despite earning less than men, new study suggests.

A new study has found that hospital patients treated by a female doctor had better health outcomes than those treated by a male doctor.

“We estimate that approximately 32,000 fewer patients would die if male physicians could achieve the same outcomes as female physicians,” the report author’s said.

More than 1.5 million hospitalisations in the United States were studied for the report.

The Harvard Medical School researchers looked at whether patients died within 30 days of their hospital admission date and whether patients were readmitted within 30 days of the discharge date,  The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

They found, with patients treated by a female doctor, a four per cent lower mortality rate and five per cent reduction in readmission rates “across all medical conditions we examined”.

“There is evidence that men and women may practice medicine differently,” the researchers said.

Previous studies had found women doctors were more likely to provide preventive care, communicate well with patients and offered more psychosocial counselling, but this was the first study to see if this resulted in better outcomes for patients.
