A plane passenger saw a text her seatmate was writing about her. It left her in tears.

Savannah Phillips was waiting for her flight to Illinois to take off when she glanced at the phone of the passenger next to her.

He was texting someone, and to her horror, she saw he was writing that he was sitting next to a “smelly fatty“.

“Before I knew it, I could feel hot, salty tears coming down my face,” Savannah wrote on Facebook.

“I don’t even know what the rest of his text said… I was shocked and it was like a confirmation of the negative things I think about myself on a daily basis.”

Sharing her story on Facebook, the Oklahoma woman said she normally tries to pick a seat in a row, so she doesn’t have to sit next to anyone.

“My worst nightmare is someone being uncomfortable because they have to sit next to me,” she wrote.

But Savannah’s worst nightmare became reality when she saw her seatmate’s text message.

“I sat and cried silently, hoping this guy didn’t try to make small talk, because I didn’t trust how I would react and I didn’t want to get kicked off the plane. I was so hurt,” she said.

After being told by the pilot that the plane would be delayed a further 30 minutes, Savannah found herself unable to stop crying, cringing at the thought of having to sit next to the man for any longer.

That was until a man, Chase Irwin, confronted the texting passenger.

Chase tapped the fat-shamer on the shoulder and demanded they switch seats, as he could see the passenger texting about Savannah and he “wasn’t putting up with that”.

Chase was shocked when he sat down, realising that Savannah was crying, but he continued to comfort her throughout the flight.

“He encouraged me not to let that guy get to me and that everything was going to be fine,” Savannah said.

He also told Savannah that when he saw the texts, he started shaking because he was so mad.

“[Chase] did prove to me today that not only does God see me, but there are more good people in the world than bad.”
