With the cliffhanger that Part 1 ended on, even those of us who have seen the musical production are left with some burning questions. Will Part 2 follow the same arc as the musical? When will it be coming out? It's all too much.

What happened at the end of Wicked: Part 1?

The end of Wicked: Part 1 is certainly a cliffhanger that will tide us over until 2025. Here's a quick recap…

Elphaba and Glinda finally arrive in the Emerald City to meet the Wizard. The Wizard and Shiz University headmistress Madame Morrible trick Elphaba into reading from an ancient book of spells, which creates the flying monkeys

After realising she has been used for her powers and that the Wizard is a fraud, Elphaba decides to flee. In a pursuit of a new life, Elphaba parts ways with Glinda, soaring into the sky while singing our favourite 'Defying Gravity'. The scene is iconic, it's emotional, and it's everything we wanted.

Meanwhile, Madame Morrible turns the people of Oz against Elphaba, who now sees her as a threat. Elphaba's sister, Nessarose is shaken by the news and their father drops dead in shock. Glinda seemingly joins Madame Morrible, despite everything that has happened.

Wicked: Part 2 is about to dive even deeper into the world of Oz, picking up where the first part left off.

As Elphaba and Glinda continue on their separate paths, the stakes get higher, and their friendship is put to the test in ways we didn't expect. If the musical is anything to go by, there are some serious twists and turns as they each face bigger challenges — and let's just say, the Wizard's not the only one with secrets.

With Elphaba's big decision to defy the Wizard, Part 2 is all about the fallout and what comes next for our favourite witches. There's more magic, more music, and, of course, even more of those iconic moments we've been waiting for. It's a thrilling continuation where loyalties shift, and the line between good and evil gets even blurrier. So get ready for an epic ride — Oz is about to get even more wild!

If Wicked: Part 2 is anything like the first part, we can likely expect it to follow the second act of the musical pretty closely. Though, Composer Stephen Schwartz has hinted at two new songs, which I am personally ecstatic to hear.

The story picks up with Glinda embracing her role as the 'Good' witch, promoting hope in Oz, while the Wizard and Madame Morrible continue to vilify Elphaba with a vicious propoganda campaign.

Glinda is engaged to Fiyero, who is now the captain of the guards. But his heart still belongs to Elphaba, who he searches for under the guise of trying to 'capture' her.

He leaves Glinda in search of Elphaba, but when they reunite things quickly go from good to bad. He is captured by the guard and hung like a scarecrow in a field to be tortured, she uses her powers to turn him into a real 'Scarecrow' so that he might live.

Elsewhere, Elphaba's sister, Nessarose, transforms into the Wicked Witch of the East. Her jealousy over Boq's love for Glinda leads to tragedy, and Elphaba ends up turning Boq into the 'Tin Man' in order to 'save' him.

So, it turns out the Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man were all rescued by Elphaba at some stage.

The two witches cross paths again when Elphaba rushes to her sister's side after a house crushes Nessarose. This leads to a trap where Elphaba is nearly captured, but Fiyero helps her escape and Elphaba protects him from the mob. In the end, Elphaba and Glinda share a touching reconciliation, but Elphaba fakes her death and escapes with Fiyero.

Glinda, unaware of their survival, delivers Elphaba's green bottle to the Wizard, who realises the gravity of his actions.

The ending is bittersweet, with the two best friends parting ways, but finding peace within themselves.
