THAT SCENE, and 10 other Easter eggs you probably missed in Wicked.

After years of anticipation, predictions and buckets of tears (and not just from the two leading ladies), Wicked has been unleashed upon the world.

Wicked adapts the beloved Broadway musical, telling the story of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), including her early years before she became the Wicked Witch of the West, and her complex friendship with Glinda (Ariana Grande) at Shiz University.

The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, features Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible. Based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel, this first part of a two-part movie adaptation explores events in Oz before Dorothy's arrival.

Mamamia.

Given the film is a spin-off of The Wizard of Oz, it's obviously stacked with loads of references and cheeky Easter eggs that allude to the classic book and film.

Obviously, some of these are not super subtle, but we've rounded up our faves.

Warning: This post contains spoilers about both parts of Wicked and The Wizard of Oz, so if you're not across what happens, read on with caution.

Wicked uses a similar font to The Wizard of Oz movie.

From the moment Wicked begins, it's clear this is an homage to the classic, The Wizard of Oz. The film's title card flashes as the town sings 'No One Mourns the Wicked', with the original film's curly font.

Dorothy, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow make a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo.

But even before the title, there was a brief zooming out which showed Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow walking down the Yellow Brick Road.

The camera zoomed out to an overhead shot of Munchkinland with rows of tulips planted in a rainbow pattern to homage to Judy Garland's 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow.'

'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' gets a few shoutouts.

Speaking of, when Elphaba runs through a field singing 'The Wizard and I', there's a rainbow in the background, along with a flock of bluebirds.

The moment is a clear callback to Garland's iconic lyrics: "Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly."

If this wasn't exciting enough, as Elphaba sings 'Unlimited' in the song, you can softly hear the melody to 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' underneath Erivo's vocals.

There are huge cameos for fans of the stage production.

Superfans were spoilt with Broadway's original Elphaba and Glinda, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, making a cameo together in Emerald City to sing 'One Short Day.' Menzel even squeezes in her signature 'Defying Gravity' riff.

It was one of the most iconic scenes of the film, catching fans off-guard with such a unique and special tribute.

They weren't the only Broadway cameos, as the musical's composer, Stephen Schwartz, and book writer, Winnie Holzman, also both pop up during the scene.

Earlier in the film, Glinda's mother was played by Alice Fearn, who was a beloved Elphaba in the West End production of Wicked.

Fiyero alludes to his future.

During Fiyero's entrance, Elphaba tells him to "Get stuffed" which is some foreshadowing of him (SPOILER!) becoming the Scarecrow in part two.

There's another nod to this in 'Dancing Through Life' when Fieryo poses with his arms outstretched ala Scarecrow — which he does again in his final scene for this particular performance.

He also sings "Life is painless, for the brainless" in the tune, which is another reference to his scarecrow future as a character without a brain.

Boq's foreshadowing.

Much like Fiyero, Boq's transformation into the tin-man is hinted at with a few small Easter eggs.

When Boq first meets Glinda, he does a small move where he leans forward and then lands back on his feet — similar to the tin-man lean in The Wizard of Oz.

In one scene, Glinda places a red handkerchief over his heart (the thing he's missing once he becomes the tin-man). In a follow-up scene, he says he 'cries a lot' in a nod to his future character.

Elphaba sings lyrics that predict her demise.

In 'The Wizard and I', Elphaba playfully sings that she was "so happy, I could melt", which fans know is the way the Wicked Witch of the West dies in The Wizard of Oz, after being soaked with a bucket of water.

This is alluded to again when it starts raining and Madame Morrible shields Elphaba, telling her "We mustn't let you get wet".

She makes several other comments that predict her future. In one lyric, she sings "I've just had a vision, almost like a prophecy… a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me," which alludes to the Munchkins celebrating her death in 'No One Mourns the Wicked.'

Nessarose's famous slippers make a cameo.

In Wicked, Elphaba's sister Nessarose (aka the Wicked Witch of the East) is given a pair of bejewelled silver shoes. While some fans expected these to be ruby-coloured, the silver shoes are based on L. Frank Baum's original novel, not the 1939 film.

Instead, the shoes were gifted in a ruby case to pay homage to the famous slippers from The Wizard of Oz.

The costume designer Paul Tazewell even shaped the heels as a tornado to reference the twister that brought Dorothy from Kansas to Oz. Nessarose wears the heels with striped socks, which nods to her signature look as the Wicked Witch of the East.

But never fear, fans of the OG Judy Garland look, during the 'Popular' scene, Glinda makes a cheeky wink to the ruby shoes as she offers Elphaba a pair, which she declines.

Glinda even taps the shoes three times, in a nod to the original Dorothy.

The Yellow Brick Road.

After Elphaba and Glinda venture to the Emerald City, they meet with the Wizard, who shows them a diorama of the city. It's here that he describes the plan for a brick road to be built and he enquires with the young witches what colour would be best.

Glinda floats the idea of yellow, saying 'it just says road to me.' What a concept!

The bicycle scene with Elphaba and Fiyero.

When Elphaba and Fiyero rescue the lion cub and cycle away from Shiz, they put him in the bike's basket. As they continue down the road, the lion pokes his head out of the basket.

This scene pays homage to the original scene where Amira Gulch takes Toto in The Wizard of Oz. You may or may not remember, but Miss Gulch is the human equivalent of The Wicked Witch of the West (since Dorothy is merely dreaming when she's in Oz, the characters are played by the same actress).

Hot Air Balloons.

Throughout Wicked, there are several hot air balloons that appear as Easter eggs, such as on Elphaba's invitation to meet the Wizard and a number of inscriptions on buildings, before another appears in the penultimate scene. This is a callback to the Wizard of Oz, whose favourite mode of transportation is a hot air balloon.
