Everything you need to know about Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser.

The 2025 Golden Globe Awards promise to be a night of glitz and glamour. But above all, they're sure to deliver some cute — and some very, very cringe — celebrity moments.

While the red carpet gives us the drama and the tearful acceptance speeches make us emotional, there's only one segment dedicated to making us laugh.

In years gone by, the opening monologue has been the main attraction — offering up meme-worthy moments as the host pokes fun at Hollywood's elite. From Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, to Ricky Gervais, these opening lines are known for stirring the pot and making viewers at home chuckle.

But in 2024, host Jo Koy flopped. Hard.

His jokes about Taylor Swift fell flat (and felt mean). His Barbie joke was gross. And his overall vibe was simply not working in that room.

As Selena Gomez placed her head in her hands, she reflected how we were all feeling in that moment. It's one thing to pull a Fey and Poehler, making fun of the audience in a way that actually makes the room shake with giggles. But when the room is in shock, instead of fits of laughter, it does not bode well for the enjoyment of the audience sitting at home.

It's something 2025 Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser knows all too well.

"People are out for blood. People who aren't celebrities love to see celebrities taken down. Even if they like celebrities, they still have this venom for them. I understand it, because it's this elite class that you feel like you're not a part of," she told Vanity Fair ahead of the awards show.

The comedian expanded, saying if she bombs in the room by pushing things too far and the audience is silent, the set won't feel funny to viewers at home. No matter how much they want her to 'destroy' these celebrities.

But she has some experience in taking things 'too far' — once famously being called out for 'bullying' Taylor Swift herself. A moment where she took an unexpected route for a comedian and publicly apologised to the star.

As she prepares to dive into the Golden Globes, we've got everything you need to know about the iconic Nikki Glaser.

Who is Nikki Glaser?

Nikki Glaser is an American stand-up comedian, actress, and television host, with a career spanning 22 years.

In 2025, she's been nominated for awards at the Golden Globes, Grammys and Critics' Choice Awards for her stand-up special Someday You'll Die. In Australia, you can watch her special on Binge and Foxtel Go.

The 40-year-old comedian has 'worked her ass off' to get to where she is, saying she couldn't be more excited to host the Golden Globes this year.

What happened between Nikki Glaser and Taylor Swift?

If you've heard of Nikki Glaser, you've heard of her obsession with Taylor Swift.

"Liking this woman is a part of my identity now," she recently told Vogue of the fact that she attended 22 concerts during The Eras Tour run.

Nikki is the ultimate Swiftie, sharing her love for Taylor online (and even in major interviews). On Jimmy Kimmel Live, she revealed "when I have weekends off from my own tour, I fly to see her."

But it wasn't always this way.

In January 2020, the Miss Americana documentary about Taylor Swift's life during her Reputation era was released. It heavily featured Taylor's "fall from grace" at the height of her popularity during the 1989 era and included montages of the way people spoke about her in the press.

One such person was Nikki Glaser.

In one clip, Nikki says on a television show: "She's too skinny; it bothers me... all of her model friends, and it's just like come on."

The comedian was accused by Swifties of bullying the singer, and was even sent death threats.

Upon seeing herself in the documentary trailer, Nikki shared an Instagram post about the moment she heard her own sound bite. In a rare move for a celebrity these days, she apologised.

"Unfortunately, I am featured in her new documentary as part of a montage of asshats saying mean things about her," Nikki began her post. "It's insanely ironic because anyone who knows me knows I'm obnoxiously obsessed with her and her music.

"I was horrified to hear my own voice," she wrote. "The sound bite was from an interview I did 5 years ago and I [said it] in SUCH a shitty tone."

She said the quote was a classic example of projection.

"If you're familiar with my 'work' at all, you know I talk openly about battling some kind of eating disorder for the past 17 years. I was probably 'feeling fat' that day and was jealous. Also, I've had people say the same shit about me being too skinny before and know how terrible it feels to hear that when you're struggling. And I was only bothered by her model friends because I'd like to be her friend and I'm not a model."

Nikki revealed she'd been a lifelong Swiftie and was horrified at how her words had seemingly affected the artist, who retreated from public life for months following the intense scrutiny in this era.

"I really have no need to post this other than to apologise to someone who seriously means SO much to me. I just hope this somehow gets to her so she knows I'm sorry for any pain I caused her and that I'd love to be her friend someday (when I start modeling) and tell her how much her music has influenced my life and comedy," she wrote. "In fact, her song "The Man" is the inspiration for my new hour of material and I feature the song is multiple iterations during my current tour. I love you Tay, and I can't wait to watch 99.97% of your new doc."

Taylor herself commented on the post.

"Wow. I appreciate this so much and one of the major themes about the doc is that we have the ability to change our opinions over time, to grow, to learn about ourselves," she wrote in response. "I'm so sorry to hear that you've struggled with some of the same things I've struggled with. Sending a massive hug."

In the years since, Glaser has addressed the controversy a handful of times.

"It was out of me being jealous of her, I was projecting. It was a gross moment and I regret it. She forgave me," she said on Howard Stern's radio show.

So, it appears to be water under the bridge. But don't expect Nikki to follow in Jo Koy's footsteps in making any Swift jokes in her Golden Globes monologue.

What has Nikki Glaser said about the Golden Globes?

Other than telling people to 'forget last year' and the bomb that was Jo Koy, Glaser has spoken of her extensive prep for the big night.

"If it goes poorly, there's nothing I could have done differently because I considered every variable. I worked my fucking ass off on this," she told Vanity Fair.

"My goal is that this monologue is passed around — that it stands the test of time. [That] it's one of those iconic monologue moments where she said some shocking things, she said some true things, she pointed out some hypocrisies that maybe we had noticed but had never been said before, but she also made it a really joyous occasion and she struck the right tone," she continued.

"I never like to tune into a show where I feel nervous for the host. I want to make sure everyone watching is not nervous for me at all. I've got this."

Where have I seen Nikki Glaser before?

Everywhere. No, really, I'm not sure how this woman gets any sleep.

As a stand-up comedian, she's been touring for years, with her own filmed specials including Bangin' on Netflix, Someday You'll Die on Binge and Perfect on Prime Video.

Her latest special, Someday You'll Die, is nominated at this year's Golden Globes for Best Comedy Special.

She's a staple of the celebrity 'comedy roasts' and has done them for Bruce Willis, Rob Lowe, Alec Baldwin and Tom Brady. Meaning she's no stranger to a little joke at a celeb's expense!

She's appeared in comedic sketch shows like Inside Amy Schumer. She's the host of a number of reality shows, including Blind Date, FBoy Island and its spin-off Lovers and Liars. And she has a podcast, aptly titled The Nikki Glaser Podcast.

She's currently prepping for her world tour in 2025, with dates in Australia in July.

And, of course, she's our Golden Globes host in January 2025.

The 2025 Golden Globe Awards will be airing live on Channel 10 and streaming on 10Play and Paramount Plus. Find all the details here.
