Spotify Wrapped is here. Here's what you need to know.

The end of the year is near, which means a few things. It is officially socially acceptable to start playing Christmas songs, you're already behind on holiday shopping, and, maybe most importantly… It's time for Spotify Wrapped.

The past few years have seen Spotify Wrapped become not only a cultural phenomenon but a seemingly indispensable part of our identities. Let's face it — you are what you listen to. It's no wonder we're all sharing our Spotify Wrapped results to Instagram as soon as they come out.

So, who will it be for you this year? One of the pop girlies of the year, like Sabrina Carpenter or Chappell Roan? Or an enduring icon like Taylor Swift or Lady Gaga? Either way, we learn a great deal about each other from our music tastes.

Who won top artist for Spotify Wrapped this year?

Globally, Bad Bunny took home the top artist (for the fourth time, mind you) with 19.8 billion streams this year. Tay Tay came in next, followed by The Weeknd, Drake and Billie Eilish.

Our tastes differed a little closer to home. In Australia, the Eras Tour mastermind was the top artist (because, duh), followed by Drake, Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd and Billie Eilish.

Who won best song for Spotify Wrapped this year?

This title went to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' hit 'Die With A Smile', with over 1.7 billion streams.

Billie Eilish's 'BIRDS OF A FEATHER' jumped from number three last year to second place this year (it's a lasting banger, so this checks out) and ROSÉ and Bruno Mars' 'Apt' rounded out the top three. Two for Bruno, you go Bruno.

When does Spotify Wrapped come out in 2025?

Nobody knows when Spotify Wrapped is going to drop, because the music streamer likes to keep us on our toes.

However, on December 4, 2025, Australians woke up to a very nice surprise — Wrapped was ready!

It follows the trend that Spotify Wrapped is usually released the day after Apple Music releases its yearly wrap up.

And the trend that it usually is featured in the last week of November or the first week of December.

When did Spotify Wrapped come out in previous years?

2016. Tuesday, December 6.

2017. Wednesday, December 6.

2018. Wednesday, December 5.

2019. Thursday, December 5.

2020. Wednesday, December 2.

2021. Wednesday, December 1.

2022. Wednesday, November 30.

2023. Thursday, November 30.

2024. Thursday, December 5.

2025. Thursday, December 4.

Despite the odd Tuesday in 2016, history tells us that Spotify Wrapped is usually released on a Wednesday or Thursday each year, as per the usual pattern.

When do they stop counting Spotify Wrapped?

This seems to be a popular question floating around the internet: When does Spotify Wrapped… wrap? Because it's certainly not documenting one full year, but rather January 1st to… an unidentified date.

Once again, Spotify seems to like to keep an air of mystery about their activities, including when Spotify Wrapped stops counting.

However, Spotify did recently confirm that, contrary to popular belief, Spotify does not stop counting after Halloween.

That's right! Every tune you listen to — even after October 31 — counts towards your Spotify Wrapped.

While we don't have an official date for when Spotify stops counting, it has been rumoured the vote stopped this year in mid-November.

TikTok sleuths spread word that big artists were asked to submit their Spotify Wrapped videos in the middle of the month — which they assumed meant the counting had stopped.

But, Spotify have previously hinted that it counts right down to the wire.

So, if you're worried about curating the artists and songs you want on your Spotify Wrapped, make sure you're listening to the right tunes until it drops.

Does December count in Spotify Wrapped?

Yes and no. For the years when Spotify Wrapped has been released in the first week of December, it's possible your streams from that week will still be counted.

Again, no formal confirmation of this, but from Spotify's hints, it seems they count right down to the wire.

Why can't I find my Spotify Wrapped?

If you've logged on to Spotify this morning and haven't seen your Wrapped never fear.

The streaming mogul uses Wrapped as an opportunity to force users to update the app, so it might just be that you haven't done that in a while.

Once you've updated, you should see a series of tabs at the top of Spotify including one that says 'Wrapped'.

What is a normal amount of streams for Spotify Wrapped?

Spotify itself has not released an official average when it comes to listening time per year. However, in 2023, Dataconomy did some maths and estimated that the average Spotify listening time is 3,695 minutes per user per year.

If that feels alarmingly low for you, don't worry — you're not alone. The team here at Mamamia are known for their lengthy listen times.
