What to watch in December 2024

How to Make Gravy.

Inspired by the Paul Kelly song, and starring iconic Aussie names like Hugo Weaving, How to Make Gravy follows an inmate who writes a letter to his family as they prepare for their first Christmas without him.

Jack In Time.

Follow comedian Jack Whitehall as he finds himself stranded in the USA. With four days to make it back to the UK in time for Christmas, the Brit's journey is helped (or hindered) by some famous faces, including Michael Bublé, Rebel Wilson, and Jimmy Fallon.

Black Doves.

Die Hard fans, have we got the December thriller for you. This six-episode series follows Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a quick-witted wife and mother — and professional spy. For a decade, she's been passing on her politician husband's secrets to the organisation she works for: the Black Doves. When her secret lover is assassinated, her old friend is tasked with keeping her safe.

Starring Aussie icon Cate Blanchett, Rumours follows the leaders of seven wealthy democracies as they get lost in the woods while drafting a statement on a global crisis. Together, they face unknown dangers as they try to find their way to safety.

A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter.

I can't relate to desperation, until it comes to Sabrina Carpenter. The pop singer is ending her chart-topping year with a Netflix Christmas special. Including performances from her new holiday EP fruitcake, and iconic holiday covers, the special will also feature famous faces including Chappell Roan, Shania Twain, Cara Delevingne, and more.

The Sticky.

A comedy-drama series, The Sticky follows the story of maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale) who teams up with a Bostonian mobster and a French-Canadian security guard for the Canadian heist of the century. The target: the country's multi-million dollar maple syrup surplus.

Taking place in between the events of Inside Out and Inside Out 2, as Riley's memories need some extra processing, Joy and the rest of the Core Emotions send them to 'Dream Productions'. Meanwhile, acclaimed director Paula Persimmon (voice of Paula Pell) faces a nightmare of her own: Trying to create the next hit dream after being paired up with Xeni (voice of Richard Ayoade), a smug daydream director looking to step up into the big leagues of night dreams.

Queer Eye Season 9.

Jonathan Van Ness, Tan France, Karamo Brown, and Antoni Porowski are back, and joined by newcomer Jeremiah Brant who has replaced interior designer Bobby Berk, following his contentious exit. This season, the fab five are helping heroes in Las Vegas for what is sure to be another heartwarming watch.

No Good Deed.

From Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman comes this dark comedy series. When three families race to buy the same 1920s Spanish-style villa, they are faced with the old adage… be careful what you wish for. The series is led by Emmy Award–winning actors Lisa Kudrow (Friends) and Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond).

Starring Rocketman heart-throb (and personal crush) Taron Egerton, Carry-On follows a young TSA agent named Ethan who is blackmailed into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight. Ethan must then outsmart the mysterious traveller.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

In the third instalment of the adored Sonic films, Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful and mysterious new villain named Shadow. With their abilities tested, the trio must find an unlikely alliance. Starring Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba, it's the perfect family flick this December.

Squid Game Season 2.

Three years after the hit first season, Squid Game is back baby! Player 456, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) returns in an attempt to end the competition once and for all. With a new set of games, Player 456 finds himself locked in a tense battle with the shadowy Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), whose true motivations remain cloaked in secrecy.

Dexter: Original Sin.

Set in 1991 Miami, this 10-episode drama series follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. With the help of his father Harry (Christian Slater), Dexter adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement's radar.

Laid.

Described as a "f**ked up rom-com" and based on the Australian series of the same name, Laid follows a woman who finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward.
