'Lazy Luxury' is fashion's new buzzword. Here's what it means for your wardrobe.

If there's one thing fashion loves, it's a trendy new term. And the latest one getting around is very symptomatic of the time we're living in: "Lazy Luxury".

Lazy luxury is for those of us that want to look polished, but lack the time, energy and funds to invest in doing it.

Unlike Quiet Luxury, which was all about giving "rich person" in understated designer fashion, its lazy counterpart is less stuffy and definitely more chill.

If Quiet Luxury was Nicole Kidman playing the family matriarch in The Perfect Couple with her pussy-bow blouses and pencil skirts, then Lazy Luxury is Julianne Moore in Sirens, wafting around her mansion in kaftans and satin bathrobes while her well-heeled friends wear sugary pastel twinsets.

If you're wondering what the leading ladies of prestige drama have to do with your wardrobe, then forget the references for a moment and focus on the feeling: there's an ease to 'lazy luxury' that feels exactly like the way we want to be dressing in 2025 — effortlessly, minus the fuss.

Eliza Huber, a fashion writer for Who What Wear, says Lazy Luxury looks like "the chicest person you know's weekend uniform".

It reflects a general vibe shift in fashion, with influencers and celebrities moving away from highly stylised aesthetics and embracing a more undone, casual mood.

Where the post-Covid era saw the rise of "dopamine dressing" and peacocking via our outfits, we're now relaxing into style's softer side.

Layers are looser and longer. Shoes are flat and simple, like thongs or loafers. Roomy suede handbags and low-key leather totes are taking over from the structured, logo-emblazoned styles we used to covet.

And the colour palette is lighter too, with creams, whites and muted tones replacing bolder shades.

Everything looks stylish and elevated, but not in a way that's trying too hard.
