Last year, Jamie Foxx was mysteriously rushed to hospital. He's finally addressed why.

In April last year, Academy Award-winning actor, singer and comedian Jamie Foxx was admitted to hospital with an undisclosed medical condition.

Now, he has tearfully admitted the health scare was due to a "brain bleed that led to a stroke", which caused him to forget 20 days of his life.

In his new Netflix comedy special Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… the 56-year-old wiped his eyes as he told the audience about his diagnosis.

"Please, Lord, let me get through this," he said.

Here, we share the key moments from his comedy special, including his comments about *that* Diddy rumour, and his recent health complications.

Jamie Foxx jokes about Sean "Diddy" Combs.

In his special, the comedian addressed (totally unfounded) internet rumours linking his health crisis to Sean "Diddy" Combs, noting that theories running rampant on the internet which claimed Combs "was trying to kill" him.

"The internet said Puffy was trying to kill me, that's what the internet was saying. I know what you thinking, Diddy?" Foxx said.

Foxx referenced Combs' infamous 'Freak Off' parties that were named in the music mogul's indictment, saying, "Hell no. I left them parties early. I was out by 9pm… Something don't look right… It's slippery in here."

Foxx also name-dropped Combs as he joked about his procedure in hospital, saying he didn't "see the light" but felt "oddly peaceful" in a "tunnel".

"I was in that tunnel, though. It was hot in that tunnel," he said.

"S***, am I going to the wrong place in this motherf***er?" he joked, adding, "Because I looked at the end of the tunnel, and I thought I saw the devil like, 'Come on.' Or is that Puffy? I'm f***ing around."

Combs is currently in custody, awaiting trial on charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has been denied bail multiple times.

Unsealed court documents stated the rapper had "abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfil sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct".

More than two dozen people have also filed lawsuits against the rapper alleging alleging sexual assault and physical violence.

Combs has denied all the allegations laid out in the civil lawsuits and his federal indictment.

His trial is set for May 2025.

Combs faces up to life in prison if convicted on the racketeering charge and could face another statutory minimum of 15 years for the sex trafficking charges.

Jamie Foxx's hospitalisation.

Since his hospitalisation, Foxx has shared only scant detail about what happened. The lack of information led internet conspiracy theorists to run rampant with unfounded theories, including a claim that Foxx had been cloned. Now, he's finally set the record straight.

The comedian said he experienced a bad headache in April 2023 and asked a friend for an aspirin.

At the time, the Oscar winner, who was working on action-comedy Back in Action with Cameron Diaz, visited a doctor in Georgia who gave him a cortisone shot and said he would be okay.

"What the f*** is that? I don't know if you can do Yelps for doctors, but that's half a star," the star joked in his special.

His sister Deidra Dixon grew concerned as Foxx remained "lethargic" and took him to another doctor, who discovered Foxx had suffered a near-fatal brain bleed that led to a stroke.

"If I don't go into his head right now, we're going to lose him," Foxx recalled the doctor saying.

He underwent surgery and doctors told his sister they believed it was possible for him to make a full recovery "but it's going to be the worst year of his life."

When he woke up on May 4, he was wheelchairbound.

"I don't remember 20 days," Foxx said.

From there he was flown to Chicago for rehabilitation. Foxx said the original source of the brain bleed is unknown.

"It is a mystery," he said in the special. "We still don't know exactly what happened to me. All I can tell you is that I appreciate every prayer, because I needed every prayer."

Four months after his hospitalisation, Foxx announced he was recovering from an undisclosed medical condition.

"I went to hell and back and my road to recovery has some potholes as well, but I'm coming back," he said in a three-minute video posted on his Instagram in July 2023.

"I'm able to work.

"I just didn't want you to see me like that... I didn't want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through," Foxx said, thanking his daughter, sister, God and medical professionals for saving his life.

Foxx said the experience was something he never thought he would go through.

"Every once in a while I just burst into tears... because it's been tough, man, I was sick... but now I've got my legs under me, so you're going to see me," he said.

The comedian thanked his family for "keeping it airtight" and not "letting anything out", but acknowledged that the lack of clarity about his condition fuelled a lot of false speculation and even conspiracy.

"By being quiet sometimes things get out of hand. People saying what I got, some people saying I was blind, but as you can see the eyes are working just fine. They said I was paralysed. I'm not paralysed."
