Wedding shorts: the bridal trend we didn’t see coming.
In a win for anti-brides everywhere: American retailer J. Crew, have just released their spring 2015 bridal collection and it includes shorts.
The brand’s look-book suggests the white, athletic-style shorts are best worn with a matching beaded singlet and heels or a pale grey v-neck jumper and strands of pearls.
Obviously, a pair of beaded shorts isn’t everyone’s idea of bridal couture, but you can’t deny the upsides.
You won’t need to be sewn into them, you’re less likely to embark on a ridiculous weight loss plan, the dry cleaning will be cheap, and they’re damn easy to get off at the end of the night.
Bridal Jumpsuits: would you say ‘I do’ in one?
Molly Schaul, bridal shorts creator (and director of wedding design) at J.Crew, says: “The shorts are a perfect option for beach weddings but also offer a really unique opportunity to be bold in a casual setting.”
She has a point – ask any former bride who got married on the beach and they’ll tell you about the tonnes of sand and driftwood that got collected in their wedding dress train. It makes for a crazy expensive dry cleaning bill.
“A lot of modern brides are always looking for something that will allow them to take a risk and be unique at their weddings but still keep that timeless aesthetic so they’ll be happy looking back at their photographs in 20 years,” Schaul tells InStyle.
