While we’re all happy to see the warmer weather finally heading our way, there’s one group we need to protect more than ever, and that’s our pets.
Issuing a summer warning via its Facebook page, Channel 9 News Perth shared a photo of one pup’s very sore-looking paws.
“A reminder that if the ground is too hot for your feet, then it’s also too hot for your pet’s paws,” the caption read.
It’s advised you walk pets on the grass and to check the pavement to avoid burning the padding on their paws.”
The post has been shared 70,000 times since it was first posted on the news channel's page on Tuesday evening.
According to the RSPCA, keeping your pet comfortable and safe from the summer sun is simple enough, but if you aren't diligent, things can get hairy pretty quickly.
Their top tips for ensuring your furry or fluffy plus one is kept happy through the sunnier months include leaving out multiple water bowls for pets in case one spills; going for walks in the early and late hours of the day in a bid to avoid the midday heat; and leaving pets inside or in a shady area on particularly hot days.
Given how much eternal joy and social media credibility our pets give us, providing adequate water, shade and belly rubs is really the least we can do, right?
