Days before her heartbreaking post, Virginia Giuffre was facing court.

On Tuesday, April 1, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who prominently accused deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and once alleged she was trafficked to Prince Andrew, shared she has just 'days to live' after being involved in a car crash.

The 41-year-old mother of three, who lives in Australia, took to social media to say she'd had the "worst start to a new year" after being hit by a bus.

"I won't bore anyone with the details but I think it important to note that when a school bus driver comes at you driving 110km as we were slowing for a turn that no matter what your car is made of it might as well be a tin can," she wrote.

In the days since her announcement, there has been increasing public interest in the specifics of her claims.

Here's what we know about the weeks leading up to the incident, the crash itself, and how Giuffre is doing now.

What happened?

According to Giuffre, a bus hit her car at speed, causing potentially fatal injuries. On Instagram, Roberts shared the dire news with her followers.

"I've gone into kidney renal failure, they've given me four days to live, transferring me to a specialist hospital in urology," she wrote.

She thanked her followers for their support and expressed her wish to see her three children, from whom she is believed to be estranged.

"I'm ready to go, just not until I see my babies one last time, but you know what they say about wishes," Giuffre said.

In a statement, Giuffre's representative, Dini von Mueffling, told the Guardian that Giuffre had "been in a serious accident and is receiving medical care in the hospital". She added: "She greatly appreciates the support and well wishes people are sending."

At the time it was unclear when or where the bus crash took place.

Giuffre's father Sky Roberts commented on her Instagram post saying he was "praying for her to get the correct treatment to live a long and healthy life".

He told The Telegraph his daughter was depressed and wanted to be reunited with her children.

"She's not doing good. She's depressed because she misses her kids,"he said. "She's got four days unless she gets another opinion from another doctor.

"It could be that she could pass away in four days, like she said. But if she gets another doctor, they could probably do other things for her. So that's all I'm waiting to hear."

The Telegraph reports Guiffre had recently separated from her husband of 22 years, Robert Giuffre, and had been living in Perth.

Late last month, Guiffre shared she was struggling being separated from her children.

"My beautiful babies have no clue how much I love them and they're being poisoned with lies," she wrote.

"I miss them so very much. I have been through hell & back in my 41 years but this is incredibly hurting me worse than anything else. Hurt me, abuse me but don't take my babies. My heart is shattered and every day that passes my sadness only deepens."

What has her family said?

Hours after Giuffre released her announcement, Western Australian police confirmed that there had been a "minor" crash between a bus and a car near Neergabby, 20 kilometres north of Perth on March 24, but no injuries were reported.

"The collision was reported by the bus driver the following day. The car sustained approximately $2000 worth of damage," a spokesperson said.

It was unclear at the time whether this was the crash that Giuffre referred to.

On Wednesday, her family released a statement to address the confusion around the circumstances Giuffre described.

In a statement they said: "Today she remains in serious condition while receiving medical care.

"On March 24, in rural Western Australia, a school bus hit the car in which she was riding. The police were called but said that there was no one available to come to the scene. They asked if anyone was injured and suggested that if they were, they should make their way to the hospital.

"The school bus driver had a bus full of distraught children and left the scene to get them back, saying he would file a police report, which he did later. Virginia was banged up and bruised and returned home."

Later, her condition worsened, and she went to hospital, they say. They also clarified that her post was supposed to go to a private Facebook page, not her public Instagram.

The family have not provided an update on whether her 'four days to live' prognosis still stands after her time in hospital.

A difficult time.

People report that in the two months prior to the crash, Giuffre had been accused of breaching a family violence restraining order.

She first appeared in court on March 14 but did not enter a plea.

A new hearing was scheduled at Joondalup Magistrates Court for April 9, just days before her post on Instagram.

According to People, the charge is regarding a breach of the family violence restraining order in the Perth suburb of Ocean Reef on February 2.

According to news.com.au reports, Virginia Giuffre's estranged husband Robert is also facing separate charges.

Who is Virginia Giuffre?

Giuffre is one of Epstein's most prominent accusers. For years, she stood by allegations he trafficked her when she was 17 years old and forced her to have sex with several of his rich and powerful friends, including Prince Andrew.

She alleged Andrew sexually assaulted her multiple times in locations such as London, New York, and Epstein's private island. Giuffre claimed that Ghislaine Maxwell facilitated these encounters.

Prince Andrew has consistently denied the allegations.

Epstein was indicted in federal court in 2019 for sex trafficking, but died later that year in prison. He was accused of trafficking more than 100 underage women from 2002 to 2018 and abusing them alongside his high-profile associates.

Maxwell was convicted in 2021 and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

In a famous interview with BBC Newsnight in November 2019, the prince discussed his friendship with Epstein and claimed he never met Giuffre.

He also addressed a photograph of Giuffre, Andrew and Maxwell, seemingly implying the image may have been faked.

"That's me but whether that's my hand or whether that's the position I… but I don't… I have simply no recollection of the photograph ever being taken," he told journalist Emily Maitlis.

Following the interview, which was widely panned, it was announced Andrew would stand down as a working royal. He was stripped of his military titles.

In her own interview with the BBC the following month, Giuffre stood by her allegations.

"I had been abused by a member of the royal family... I wasn't chained to the sink, but these powerful people were my chains. I didn't know what could happen," she told BBC Panorama.

"I couldn't comprehend how the highest levels of the government were allowing this to happen. Not only allowing it to happen but participating in it."

In 2021, Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against Andrew in the US and reached an out-of-court settlement the following February.

Importantly, the agreement did not require Andrew to admit liability or wrongdoing, though he acknowledged Giuffre as a victim of abuse and expressed regret for his association with Epstein.

The financial terms were not disclosed, but reports estimated the payment to range from £3 million to £12 million.

Giuffree went on to found the non-profit organisation Speak Out, Act, Reclaim, which supports victims of sexual abuse and trafficking.

In recent years, Giuffre has continued to advocate for victims of sexual trafficking while documents related to Epstein's case have continued to be released by the US Department of Justice, bringing renewed attention to those involved in his network.
