New mother-in-law relationships can be sensitive at the best of times, however Reddit user Bamboo2u has found herself in a bit of a tricky situation.
Reaching out on the online community for help, she says she invited her MIL to come wedding dress shopping with her mother, her fiancé’s sister and a few friends.
Everything was going perfectly, or at least that’s what she thought.
“Overall we had a great day and I got the most amazing dress. My mum cried and my fiancé’s mum cried it was special,” she wrote.
Sharing a conversation they had at lunch, the Reddit user said they spoke about whether or not she should keep her maiden name after the wedding and while it seemed like they had resolved the issue, they clearly hadn’t.
“At lunch my mum told everyone she’d suggested I keep my maiden name for work only and take my fiancé’s name for my personal life,” she continued.
“I have a problem with clients asking to be friends on Facebook and Instagram which I cannot do because it goes against my work’s rules. I want to keep my personal life private from my work life.
“My fiancé’s mum agreed with my mum because that is what she does for work too.”
Team Mamamia confess the worst things they’ve said to their mother-in-law.
However, after they parted ways, the bride-to-be received a text from her MIL, and it definitely wasn’t meant for her.
“I made the mistake of reading it from my car with my fiancé in the car,” she wrote.
