Donald Trump attacks Vogue editor Anna Wintour in a bizarre case of mistaken identity.

US President Donald Trump has lashed out at US magazine Vanity Fair, over a controversial video in which the publication suggested New Year resolutions for his former rival, Hillary Clinton.

On Twitter on Thursday, President Trump said the magazine was “bending over backwards in apologising for the minor hit.”

The former reality TV star added that Anna Wintour – who supported Clinton during the election – “is beside herself in grief and begging for forgiveness!”, presumably mistaking the Vogue editor-in-chief as the boss of the fellow Conde Nast title.

The video, posted over the weekend, shows editors of Vanity Fair‘s Hive website offering toasts and New Year’s resolutions for Clinton, including that she vow to take up knitting, volunteer work or any hobby – “literally anything that will keep you from running [for President] again”.

The outlet also suggested the former Democratic nominee pen a sequel to her memoir, What Happened, and title it What the Hell Happened. And also that she put away her “voodoo doll” of James Comey, the former FBI director who led the investigation into her use of a private email server.

“We all know you think James Comey cost you the election – and he might have – but so did a handful of other things,” one editor said. “It’s a year later and time to move on.”

The backlash was swift.

Among those to respond was actress Patricia Arquette, who tweeted her own proposal:

In a statement on Wednesday, Vanity Fair said the video was “an attempt at humour” that “regrettably missed the mark.”

However, clearly not so much that they were prepared to take it down – it remains available on the Vanity Fair Twitter account, where it has so far amassed more than 4300 retweets and over 14,000 comments.
