Donald Trump: Americans apologise to Australia after US President's phone call with Turnbull.

Americans have taken to social media to apologise to Australians after US President Donald Trump’s “hostile” phone call to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull regarding the refugee resettlement deal.

During the 25-minute conversation, Mr Trump reportedly called it “the worst deal ever” and accused Mr Turnbull of seeking to export the “next Boston bombers”.

On Twitter, he said: “Do you believe it? The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!”.

After that tweet, social media was flooded with apologies from Americans distancing themselves from their President and expressing their embarrassment.

As well as Australia, people also took the opportunity to apologise to other countries affected by Mr Trump’s actions.

“Dear Muslims, Jews, Black Americans, Australia, Mexico, women … We are sorry,” Lennie Appelquist tweeted.

However, not everyone was apologetic.

“These are the prisoners that Australia has and Obama said he would take. Good for Trump,” wrote Elise Young.

The refugee resettlement deal was a one-off deal made between the Australia Government and the US at the end of the Obama administration.

Under the deal 1,250 refugees from Manus Island and Nauru would be resettled in America after an intense vetting process.

However, after Mr Trump’s criticism it remains unclear whether the deal will go ahead.

The uncertainty has reignited calls on Twitter for the refugees to be brought to Australia.
