When British Vogue declares something "the next viral high-street product," you know it's going to be everywhere.

The item in question? UNIQLO's Baggy Curve Jeans.

These trending jeans du jour have that "it" factor unisex denim shape that taps into the baggy trend dominating street style right now. A curved leg inseam also creates that barrel leg jean or "horseshoe" shape that looks effortlessly cool.

As Mamamia's official questionable jeans correspondent, I had to put them to the test.

Meet the UNIQLOjeans.

UNIQLO's Baggy Curve Jeans are priced at $59.90.

The website describes these unisex (yes, unisex!) jeans as having a "softly curved silhouette with a high waist and volume at the sides."

These unisex (yes, unisex!) jeans come in four colours — dark grey, light blue, a true blue and dark navy — and the website describes them as having a "softly curved silhouette with a high waist and volume at the sides."

A cool thing about shopping UNIQLO online is you can see the products styled on staff and real people.

From the photos above, they looked promising, but the real question was: would I, a 40-something mum, look 'effortlessly cool' in these jeans?

Before we get into it, a note on the sizing, because it's a little tricky to navigate.

UNIQLO jeans use inch sizing as follows: 22-24 inch = AU size 4-6, 26-28 inch = AU size 8-10, 30-32 inch = AU size 12-14, 34-36 inch = AU size 16-18.

I got a size 30 (equivalent to a size 12), sizing up from my usual 10 because the cool girls I've seen wearing them wear them sitting lower on the hips. In hindsight, I should have got my regular size. I much prefer the safety of my higher, more forgiving jeans.

At 173cm, the length worked for me, but if you're any shorter, I'd recommend taking advantage of UNIQLO's alteration service.

My honest UNIQLO jeans review.

Let's start with the good…

My Gen Z colleagues were overwhelmingly impressed (actually, I've never had such a big reaction from them)

They are incredibly comfortable, like wearing tracksuit pants

Great to sit down in, no restrictive waistband digging in

The light denim colour felt like something I would wear

And now, the not-so-good…

The silhouette has a much stronger curve than the "softly curved" description suggests

At some angles, I thought "oh yeah, I look cool," but at others, it looked like I'd been riding a horse for too long

The darker denim made me feel like a skater boy (and not in a good way).

They're quite long, so shorter women will definitely need alterations

What my colleagues said.

The thing that really stood out was the reactions from my Gen Z colleagues. They were overwhelmingly impressed. Like I've never had such a positive reaction from them.

I also asked our resident fashion guru and host of Mamamia's Nothing To Wear podcast Leigh Campbell what she thought, she had strong feelings.

"LOVE the jeans. Not how I would personally wear them, but different strokes… you always have the best hair."

(Thanks Leigh, I believe that's what we call a compliment sandwich.) Naturally, I asked her how she would wear them.

"The dark ones are elite. I'd do flat sandals or a kitten heel, a slightly more fitted tee and a blazer, or bomber jacket, or tucked-in oxford shirt," she said.

"Or, you could go double denim with an oversized denim jacket and pumps, but they need to sit on the waist with a belt."

The final verdict.

Comfort doesn't always equal cool, but sometimes, viral trends give you both. Because these jeans were seriously comfortable.

The horseshoe shape is definitely... a shape. Whether it's effortlessly cool or just plain effort depends entirely on your styling skills and, frankly, your confidence levels.

Would I wear these again? At first, I was like no way, but everyone loved them.

But with Leigh's styling advice and a good belt? I think I need to give them another proper go.
