'I've found the most unhinged beauty hacks that actually work.'

While TikTok can be a goldmine when it comes to crowdsourcing beauty hacks, sometimes the tips can be a little more, er, unorthodox than you bargained for.

But, if the latest trend to fill our feeds is anything to go by, sometimes unhinged beauty tips are exactly what you need.

By now you might have seen TikTokers and Instagram influencers asking their followers for the "most unhinged" yet effective solutions they've come across to deal with common hurdles in everyday life.

Watch: Mamamia's beauty writer, Juna Xu, tries the overlined lips hack. Post continues below.

Parenting, cleaning, house renovations, dating, saving money, health — you name the problem and there's likely a video of desperate people asking for something, anything, to fix it.

The latest community to offer up their advice? TikTok's beauty collective, who have come in clutch with the tips that have completely changed their lives (as well as their bank accounts).

To say that some of these "tips" are unhinged — if not downright dangerous — is an understatement. I can tell you with the utmost confidence that it is NOT a good idea to fill in your acne scars with glue to make your makeup look less patchy. Please do not put random products that are not meant for cosmetic use onto your face.

Similarly, while suggestions of using cocoa powder in place of dry shampoo for brunettes might sound good in theory ("you'll smell delicious!"), it's probably not so good in practice (you would risk having bacteria and mould grow in your scalp because cocoa powder is literal FOOD). And while chemically burning your armpits would actually prevent hair growth there, you definitely should not do that either.

Like a dumpster diver at an upmarket shopping centre, I have waded through the depths of disturbing and unsanitary beauty practices to find you the most helpful, unhinged and, yes, entertaining beauty tips that are doable — and also will probably not give you a skin infection (however, this is not medical advice).

The best unhinged — yet helpful — DIY beauty tips.

Weird makeup hacks that actually work.

#1: To get easy, no-fuss and minimum effort curled lashes in the morning, blink and look up before putting on an eyemask for sleeping. The mask will keep your lashes pushed upwards, effectively curling them overnight.

#2: One TikTok user also suggested using temporary tattoo ink off Amazon for winged eyeliner that lasts days. While this idea sounds fun in theory, I'd like to caution you not to put anything near your eyes that isn't expressly safe to do so.

#3: In one of the most "girl math" hacks I've ever seen, one TikTok user claims getting your makeup done at Mecca is essentially free if you plan to buy stuff anyway. And they're not entirely wrong. When you book a makeup service at Mecca, the money you spend on services is redeemable on products. So, if you get a $120 makeup look done and redeem it on $120 worth of makeup, you can get your shopping list sorted, and the service is simply a bonus.

#4: Fake tan as a contour and bronzer is one I've seen all over TikTok even before this trend. If done right (and blended to perfection) it can be really effective!

#5: On the topic of fake tan, some users recommend trying a mini paint roller for applying your back if you're doing it yourself at home.

#6: Aloe vera, anti-chafing cream and sunscreen apparently all work as great makeup primers.

Recommended hacks for glowing skin.

#1: Sudocrem or nappy rash ointment for getting rid of dryness, pimples and blemishes has been a hack for ages — probably because it works! It's even been tried and tested by our own beauty editor.

#2: One TikTok user said they'd started mixing a couple of drops of glycerin into their Nivea cream at night, which they believe has made their skin soft and supple. Glycerin is a common product in moisturisers and increases water retention, so this makes sense.

#3: A bunch of beauty buffs recommended using vitamin E pills for hyperpigmentation. Users recommend breaking them open and applying the contents directly onto your scars or under-eye bags.

#4: The number of people saying they simply enrolled in a three-month beauty course for ~$1,000 is wild. With the discounts they received on wholesale products as licensed estheticians, plus the money they saved on no longer needing professional beauty services, the course paid for itself in less than a year.

The unhinged hair tips TikTok swears by.

#1: Would you save all the hair you shed to make DIY hair extensions for yourself? The TikTok user who suggested this one said she saves her hair by sticking the ends to a piece of double-sided tape. When the piece fills up, she's got a fist's worth of hair to sew together into a hair clip. While this sounds crazy, I cannot help but note that every time I clean my Dyson vacuum head, I'm always amazed by how much hair there is. I always joke that if I actually collected all these hairs instead of vacuuming them up, I could make about five wigs. Maybe I was onto something?

#2: Waterproof eyebrow pencils are great for filling in your scalp to conceal the thinner parts of your hair, it seems!

#3: I'm not even sure if this counts as a "hair hack" but apparently, if you run out of floss, a strand of your hair can be a desperate replacement for your night time tooth-cleaning regime. Surely it is not entirely sanitary, but people claim it can work in a pinch!

#4: Hair spray isn't just handy for keeping hair in place — ssome people use it to keep clothes draped perfectly too!

Clever hacks to get the most out of your perfume.

#1: Perfumes are expensive and even the most long-lasting perfumes have to evaporate eventually. However, one TikTok user has created a hack that not only gives perfume better longevity, but makes it easier to carry around and reapply throughout the day. Buy some soy wax online, melt it and pop the liquid into small tins with a few sprays of your fave perfume to create a solid perfume that you can melt onto your wrists or neck whenever you need it. Plus, it means you can get way more wear out of just a few spritzes!

Welp, there you go — unhinged, weird but kind of clever beauty tips that will save you a dime and maybe even change your life. If you need me, I'll be experimenting with that eyelash-curling hack, stat.
