It’s a bit clandestine. A little bit thrilling. And a whole lot of fun. Forget Buckingham Palace, Harrods. Madam Tussauds and the London Eye. The must-do in London these days is to visit one of the city’s secret supper clubs. Intrigued? The Holiday Goddesses put on their trench coats and headed out into the night …
They call it the Super Secret Supper Scene in London. Essentially it’s amateur chefs cooking for crowds in their own homes – at far less than you’ll pay in a restaurant.
We’ve been popping into secret restaurants in London for a couple of years now at Holiday Goddess. It’s always fun to eat in a stranger’s dining room, and to take your chances with food from an amateur chef (or a professional chef who wants to moonlight). The bill is usually tiny and it’s all done through Facebook and Twitter: simple. Depending on the creativity of the organisers you may be treated to entertainment, or left in candelight looking at other people’s china.
Gingerline is probably the best-known of the secret restaurants to date, as it made its name in the Brunel Museum with a special event last November involving a Victorian banquet and pop-up entertainment. You can find Gingerline at gingerline.org.uk.
