The reason Tyra Banks has been low-key living in Australia for years.

Do you wanna be on top? Well, according to Tyra Banks, the creator of America's Next Top Model, she prefers to be Down Under.

More specifically, the supermodel has covertly been living in Australia. For how long? Banks has been quietly residing in Sydney for the past 18 months. No biggie.

So why on earth is one of the most famous women on earth smizing her way through Sydney? No, Australia's Next Top Model isn't coming back (despite my many petitions).

Banks has actually been preparing to launch her ice cream business Smize & Dream down here, splitting her time between Los Angeles and Sydney while embracing a low-key lifestyle with her family in Australia.

Smize & Dream is set to open in Sydney's Darling Harbour by mid-2025.

In September last year, the 51-year-old posted a cute Reel of a vacation she had in the Blue Mountains. "Australia is a beautiful, fascinating place," she captioned the post.

During her time in Australia, Tyra has fully immersed herself in the local culture, particularly finding joy in visiting our *checks notes* shopping centres.

She describes the Australian version of Kmart as "fancy", regularly visits Target, does her grocery shopping at Coles, Woolworths, and Harris Farm, and frequents Hoyts cinemas.

She's just like us… only wildly more successful.

Tyra can't get enough of our laid-back lifestyle. "We'll get some ice cream at the cinema, see a movie, then we might get a foot massage. Then we'll have some lunch," she told The Daily Telegraph.

"That is a whole day at the mall and we don't do that in America."

Despite her celebrity status, Tyra has oddly managed to maintain a relatively low profile in Sydney. Like an eliminated contestant at the end of every episode of ANTM, she's been blending into the background.

Back in 2023, Tyra did make waves in Melbourne when she posted a photo of local convenience store worker, Marwan Shimy, on her Instagram after telling him he could be a model.

Shimy was interviewed on The Project about the wild experience.

"It was one of the best days of my life," he told the panel. "Tyra Banks comes in and I didn't recognise her… she was so sweet, she was so humble. You didn't get the feeling of 'I'm a superstar' [from her]."

So basically, if you ever let go of that dream as a teen that you could suddenly be scouted as a model at a random shopping centre, it could still come true.

If you live in Sydney, the literal inventor of smizing, Tyra Banks, could be around the corner at any turn. Dream bigger, folks.
