The 12 words Travis Kelce said that divided Taylor Swift's fan base.

Travis Kelce may be known for his deftness with the ball, but when thrown a curveball question at a recent media day, his response wasn't taken quite so elegantly.

During the interview, a member of the press gallery asked the Kansas City Chiefs tight end about his reaction to the news that President Donald Trump would be attending the Super Bowl.

It's important to note that Trump's attendence will be the first time a sitting president has ever attended the big championship game.

Kelce responded to the news, saying, "That's awesome. It's a great honour… No matter who the president is.

"I know I'm excited because it's the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there — it's the best country in the world — and that's pretty cool."

While the answer is largely neutral and non-aggressive, some Swifties aren't convinced.

His comment is soured by the long-running history of criticisms that Donald Trump has continually levelled at Kelce's girlfriend, Taylor Swift

For example, when Swift announced her support for Trump's opposition, Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, Trump was not quiet.

On Truth Social, he wrote: "I hate Taylor Swift."

A childish response, regardless of what political affiliation you hold.

In an interview with Fox & Friends, Trump added that he was "not a fan of Taylor Swift".

"It was just a question of time… But she's a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she'll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace."

Given that Swift's 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department became the most-streamed album ever, it's clear that she is not, in fact, paying a price for sharing her voice in a democratic way.

It's important to note that Swift did not sledge Donald Trump when she announced her support for Kamala, writing that she would "be casting [her] vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election".

"I'm voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them," she added.

Naturally, Swift's fans were not happy to see her boyfriend show any support, however passive, for Trump's presence at the Super Bowl.

"Travis deserves any backlash he gets for that Trump answer idgaf," one Swiftie wrote on X.

"Travis used the term: 'honour' shows his political tone-deafness at best and apathy towards how Trump attacked Taylor at worst," another added.

Other Swifties called it a "disappointing answer", labelling him "spineless" and "fence-sitting".

"All it takes for evil to conquer is for good men to do nothing. This is disappointing and disgusting, Kelce," another added.

However, many came to Kelce's defence, highlighting that he was clearly trying not to talk about politics in an interview about the upcoming Super Bowl. Many felt he maintained a level of professionalism and respect for the president, without going as far as to endorse President Trump.

"He's at work! He kept it professional. That's all he needed to do and it was a perfect response," one fan said.

"At first, I wasn't sure about his answer, but honestly? What better way to deal with a narcissist than to be completely unbothered?" another added.

Maybe they're referencing the classic Taylor Swift song 'I Forgot That You Existed', where she sings, "It isn't love, it isn't hate, it's just indifference."

Others praised Kelce for his classy response.

"Keeping it classy and keeping the focus on his team by not talking smack. Very diplomatic as I'd expect," someone else wrote.

"He says 'no matter who the president is'; he's talking about the position not Trump; trying to keep it classy."

Meanwhile, Kelce's brother has confirmed that Taylor Swift will also attend the Super Bowl.

"Everybody's coming in," he told PEOPLE, adding, "I mean, I don't want to speak for everybody, but I think obviously, our whole family. I believe, obviously Trav and Taylor, and his family and his friends. I mean, Trav always travels like, full."

Safe to say it will be a full house when the Chiefs-Eagles game kicks off this Monday, Australian time.
