As 2024 slumps across the halfway mark, it’s hard to comprehend just how many amazing TV shows and movies have screened this year.

Pop culture stans have truly been spoilt and, thankfully, so many of the best trending shows, original Aussie content and movies are available to watch on Prime Video. There are plenty of choices included in your Prime Video subscription, or you can mix it up by adding subscriptions like Hayu and Paramount+, or rent or buy the latest blockbuster movies. It's a one-stop shop where you can say "buh-bye!" to the chaos of juggling multiple streaming apps.

Who has the time to remember all those passwords and keep track of so many apps?! Not this gal. A Prime Video subscription is just one app, one password and a huge vibe.

As someone who spends the bulk of her work hours writing about the latest movies and shows (and most of her after-work hours watching them), I know how important it is to find your happy place — for me, it’s sitting on my couch with my cats, a packet (or two?) of Tim Tams and being hooked to my screen.

We’re rounding up some of the must-watch movies and TV shows of 2024 so far. Oh boy, there's A LOT to cover.

Fake, Paramount+

Brace yourself for Fake, the gripping Aussie drama that'll have you side-eyeing your dating apps (guilty!). Starring Asher Keddie and David Wenham, this eight-part thriller follows journalist Birdie Bell as she falls for charming grazier Joe Burt. But is Joe really who he says he is? Get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions by adding a Paramount+ subscription to your Prime Video account — available with your existing Prime subscription.

I will literally watch anything that Asher Keddie is in, and this series is one of her best: completely enthralling, low-key infuriating but pure Australian TV excellence.

The Boys, Season 4, Prime Video

The Boys season four is a wild ride of superhero mayhem and dark humour. Starring Karl Urban, Antony Starr and Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford, it follows an antihero team as they face off against the increasingly unhinged homelander.

With shocking twists, hilarious dialogue and a hefty dose of gore, it's a must-watch for fans of subversive superheroes. This zany show never fails to hold a mirror up to society while providing nonstop shocking moments and hilarious scenes. Come for the superheroes, but stay for the devastatingly dreamy Crawford as an aquatic himbo.

My Lady Jane, Prime Video

My Lady Jane is a cheeky historical romp that's a fun twist on Tudor history. Following Lady Jane Grey (Emily Bader) as she navigates royal drama, an arranged marriage and magical shapeshifters, the series comes with a dash of romance and giggles in this fresh take on the nine-day queen's tale.

This is a must-watch for fans of period drama but will keep literally anyone entertained with an unexpectedly bonkers take on British history.

Summer House, Season 8, Hayu

Summer House is Hayu's best-kept secret, and season eight brought the drama to the Hamptons once again — but on a whole new level. Faves like Paige DeSorbo, Lindsay Hubbard, Carl Radke and Kyle Cooke are back, alongside some delightful newcomers ready to shake things up.

For fans of Vanderpump Rules who were glued to all things Scandoval in 2023, this season will fill the hole left in your heart. With this year’s Summer House season, a breakup plays out in real time, and the consequences are chaotic. Catch up on it all by adding a Hayu subscription to your Prime Video account, easily done with your Prime subscription.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Season 4, Hayu

If you watch any reality show in 2024, make it this one.

Season 4 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City brings back Lisa Barlow, Heather Gay, Meredith Marks and Whitney Rose, with newcomer Monica Garcia joining the fray. The season serves up drama, betrayal and shocking revelations as the women navigate friendships, feuds and the aftermath of Jen Shah's imprisonment.

The season comes through with the usual glitz and glamour, but a jaw-dropping twist awaits and trust me: it will melt your brain. Months on from the goosebumpy finale, I’m still thinking about it. Get amongst the drama by adding a Hayu subscription to your Prime Video account (add-ons available with a Prime subscription).

I Am: Céline Dion, Prime Video

Céline Dion bares her soul in the raw and intimate documentary I Am: Céline Dion. Directed by Irene Taylor, this Prime Video exclusive offers an unfiltered look at the superstar's battle with Stiff Person Syndrome. Featuring Dion herself, her family and her team, it's a poignant journey through resilience, hope and the power of music.

I watch a lot of music documentaries, and nothing has touched my heart quite like this beautiful film. You will laugh (Céline is actually hilarious) and you will cry (unless you’re made of steel), but ultimately, this movie will fill your cup with so much hope for our generation’s biggest superstar.

Dune: Part Two, Prime Video

Buckle up! After a painfully long wait, Dune: Part Two is here to rent or buy, giving us more space wars in this iconic novel adaptation. Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides, joined by Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Austin Butler. The sequel is all about revenge, ancient prophecies and epic desert battles.

This film needs to be seen to be believed, offering a visually stunning sci-fi spectacle, along with characters worth rooting for (hello, Zendaya, duh) and baddies that’ll give you nightmares.

The Idea of You, Prime Video

The Idea of You is a delightful rom-com starring Anne Hathaway as Solène, a 40-year-old single mum who falls for Hayes (Nicholas Galitzine), a 24-year-old boy band heartthrob. It's a whirlwind romance that explores the complexities of love at different ages, fame and female self-discovery.

I am something of a rom-com connoisseur, and this movie has to be one of the most enjoyable of the genre in the past five years. The casting is flawless, Hathaway and Galitzine have sizzling chemistry and it’s a wholesome story.

Challengers, Prime Video

Zendaya gives an iconic performance in Challengers, an unfathomably sexy tennis drama. Alongside hunks Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist, she plays Tashi, a former prodigy-turned-coach caught in a love triangle.

I've never had more fun watching anything in 2024 than I did watching Challengers. From the sexual tension rising between the trio of tennis stars to the heart-pumping soundtrack, this is a completely unique movie experience that's available to rent or buy. Game, set, match!

Drive-Away Dolls, Prime Video

Get ready for a wild ride with Drive-Away Dolls, a black comedy you can rent or buy that's just such a fun time. This quirky road trip flick stars Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan as two queer besties who accidentally get mixed up in a hilarious crime. Directed by Ethan Coen (yep, one half of the famous Coen brothers), it's a saucy, silly adventure you won't want to miss!

This movie is super weird, which is to be expected coming from a Coen. It's best to just strap in for this wild ride and not ask too many questions. Trust me, I didn't want it to end.

Happy viewing, friends!
