How Tom Holland and Zendaya broke the Spider-Man curse.

Zendaya and her long-time partner, Tom Holland, are officially engaged.

ICYMI, Zendaya arrived at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards in style, channelling vintage Hollywood in a metallic bronze Louis Vuitton gown. But it wasn't just her stylish ensemble that captured the eyes of her fandom: it was the sparkling diamond ring she wore on that finger.

While the Challengers star and Golden Globe nominee was wearing multiple jewels, a very engagement ring-looking diamond perched on her ring finger was bound to get the internet buzzing. We couldn't help but wonder: did Zendaya just soft launch her engagement to Tom Holland? It seems yes, yes she did.

Not 24 hours later and the union was confirmed, with a family source sharing the good news with People. Of course, it was a very "them" way to do the announcement: with a fashion statement and a sweet family message. Understated, elegant, and oh-so-private.

"He's always been crazy about [Zendaya]. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special," the source said, adding that Holland filled his friends and family in on the upcoming nuptials around New Year's.

Tom and Zendaya's engagement has officially broken the Spider-Man curse that has long followed the various co-stars who have lead the franchise.

Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire, who played Mary Jane and Spider-Man in 2001, dated following working together, but sadly broke up a year later. Then, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, who also starred in two Spider-Man films together, dated for four years before calling it quits in 2015.

So, Tom and Zendaya have already defied the odds.

Of course, we need to have a moment for the ring. The east-west cushion diamond ring is reported to weigh in at a whopping five carats, designed by Jessica McCormack, according to People.

"They will just enjoy things for now and they won't rush a wedding," a source told the publication. "They are both busy with work projects."

While the couple have a series of solo projects in the pipeline, they have also been announced to be working together on a new project with legendary director Christopher Nolan. The project has since been revealed as a retelling of Homer's The Odessey and is being described as a 'mythic action epic' adaptation of the saga.

The pair are also expected to join a stacked cast on Nolan's new film, including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o and Robert Pattinson, and it's safe to say we cannot wait to see their on-screen chemistry once more.

Here's a closer look at their relationship timeline, taking it all the way back to 2016, when they first met.

After beginning production on their film Spider-Man: Homecoming in June 2016, Tom and Zendaya became fast friends and were often seen hanging out off-set.

In July 2016, Tom shared a photo of himself, Zendaya, and another friend enjoying a pool day together on Instagram.

While doing promotions for their movie Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, rumours of a relationship between the two actors started circulating, given their chemistry during interviews and appearances.

A source confirms Tom Holland and Zendaya are dating, July 2017.

In July 2017, a source confirmed to People that Zendaya and Tom were in a relationship.

"They started seeing each other while they were filming Spider-Man. They've been super careful to keep it private and out of the public eye, but they've gone on vacations with each other and try and spend as much time as possible with one another," the source said.

"They're both really ambitious, and they challenge each other — but, most importantly, they make each other crack up. They seem to have a really similar sense of humour and love joking around together. They have great banter back and forth," a second source added.

However, shortly after it was reported they were dating, Zendaya and Tom seemingly denied the rumours via an exchange on Twitter. Though, in the years since, fans have come to believe this was simply an attempt to deflect attention from their romance, round one.

"Wait wait… my favourite is when it says we go on vacations together HA! I haven't been on a vacation in years! hbu @TomHolland1996 ???" Zendaya wrote in a post on X, tagging Tom.

Tom then replied, "Does the press tour count?"

Zendaya denies dating rumours, August 2017.

The following month, Zendaya was asked about the rumours in an interview with Variety — where she denied the claims by skirting the issue.

"We are friends," she said. "He's a great dude. He's literally one of my best friends. This past how many months we've had to do press tours together. There's very few people that will understand what that's like at 20 years old."

Zendaya starts dating costar Jacob Elordi, August 2019.

While neither Zendaya nor Jacob ever officially confirmed their relationship, there were seen together on several occasions, including an outing in New York City, where they were photographed kissing, and a vacation in Greece.

It is unclear when the two broke up, but Jacob was seen on a date with model Kaia Gerber in September 2020, It was speculated at the time that Elordi had cheated on Zendaya. However, neither of the actors have ever confirmed or denied the claims.

During the pandemic, it was rumoured that Tom was dating actress Nadia Parkes.

Citing multiple sources, The Daily Mail reported in May 2020 that Tom had been quietly dating Nadia for more than three months.

Neither couple addressed the reports at the time, however, in July 2020, Tom shared an Instagram photo of Nadia wearing a mask, seemingly confirming they were together. It was not confirmed when they broke up.

Zendaya and Tom were seen K-I-S-S-I-N-G in a car, July 2021.

After years of denying the dating rumours, Tom and Zendaya were photographed sharing a kiss in a car while stopped at a red light in LA. The photos sent the internet into a tailspin, as it seemed the Spider-Man romance was back on.

Later that same day, they were spotted in the Silver Lake neighbourhood leaving the home of Zendaya's mother, Claire Stoermer.

Two months after the photos of Tom and Zendaya kissing were released online, Tom wished Zendaya a happy birthday, with a sweet message and photo.

The actor posted a mirror selfie of himself with Zendaya from the set of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

He captioned the post, "My MJ, have the happiest of birthdays. Gimme a call when your [sic] up xxx."

Tom addresses the dating rumours, November 2021.

When asked about privacy and his relationships during an interview with GQ in November 2021, Tom referenced the photo of himself and Zendaya kissing and spoke about the difficulty of having such a private moment become public knowledge against their will.

"One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn't really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world," he said.

While promoting the highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home, the couple captured attention with their stunning red-carpet looks. Zendaya, in particular, was turning heads with outfits that paid homage to the iconic comic-book series.

She wowed in a floor-length, custom-made Valentino dress adorned with intricate black spider webs. The gown showcased a daring plunging neckline, a low back, and a thigh-high slit that left everyone in awe. To complete the look, she paired the ensemble with a black lace domino mask and matching Louboutin stilettos.

While on the red carpet, Tom was seen excitedly watching Zendaya's arrival.

"I think Zendaya just showed up," he told Entertainment Tonight. 'That sounds like Zendaya just showed up."

On this same press tour, the pair were openly referred to as 'boyfriend' and 'girlfriend' in interviews — choosing not to speak about it, rather simply letting their relationship be public knowledge.

In particular, an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live made it clear that yes, they were dating and no, they weren't going to hide it anymore.

When speaking about working on Euphoria, Zendaya credited Tom for supporting her through the process and helping pull her out of the darker material associated with her character, Rue, in the show.

"I think it's great to have that support and love around you, because you need that," Zendaya told ET. "This isn't an easy job, so it's good to have that to free you up from it every now and then," she added.

During an interview with Buzzfeed Celeb, Tom was asked about his "rizz" (or charisma) and his response had Tomdaya fans squealing.

Though Tom admitted he had "no rizz whatsoever," he made a sweet reference to his love story with Zendaya.

"I need you to fall in love with me, really, for it to work. So long game. Probably making a movie with each other. It definitely helps if the characters you're playing are falling in love with each other and you can sort of blur the lines a bit," he laughed.

"I'm locked up, so I'm happy and in love. So I've got no need for rizz," Tom added.

They attend the Dune: Part Two after-party, February 2024.

While Tom did not walk the red carpet with Zendaya, he did attend the Dune: Part Two London premiere afterparty to show his support.

The couple matched their outfits for the occasion, with Tom sporting a black T-shirt, vest, and trousers, while Zendaya wowed in a black floor-length dress.

In a 2025 interview, Tom admitted he no longer walks red carpets with Zendaya to avoid making the moment about their relationship.

When asked during a BuzzFeed interview who she thought in the Dune cast had the most 'rizz', Zendaya pivoted and, instead, gushed about Tom and his "beautiful charisma."

"I'm more shy and kind of quiet, so it takes a little bit more to pull me out of my shell. But he's great at talking to people and getting to know people," she said about Tom.

"You see him on talk shows, he's just naturally very good at that."

A video of the two was quickly went viral online, when Tom was seen defending Zendaya against a swarm of paparazzi.

Tom and Zendaya were holding hands before they were separated by the bustling crowd. As photographers surrounded Zendaya and fans swarmed her for autographs, Tom swiftly stepped in to protect her from the chaos.

Aside from their work on Spider-Man, Tom and Zendaya have not walked the red carpet together for their individual projects.

During an interview with Men's Health, Tom revealed the reason why he refuses to attend red carpets with Zendaya, simply stating that it's "because it's not my moment, it's her moment, and if we go together, it's about us."

In the same interview, he also hinted at an early retirement if he were to have children in the future.

"When I have kids, you will not see me in movies anymore," Tom said. "Golf and dad. And I will just disappear off the face of the earth."

Lucky for Tomdaya fans, a source close to the couple later confirmed the exciting news to People Magazine— Zendaya is officially engaged to Tom Holland.

Given the two have been extremely private about their relationship, it's unlikely we'll be hearing about their wedding anytime soon. But we couldn't be happier for the love birds!
