Tom Cruise just reunited with his corporate frenemy.

Picture this: You're at a work event minding your own business, when suddenly you spot them across the room. Your corporate frenemy. The colleague who's been passive-aggressively competing with you for literal decades. Do you wave? Do you hide behind the canapés? Do you approach with an overly enthusiastic handshake?

Well, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt just lived out this exact nightmare scenario on the red carpet at the London premiere of F1. And honestly, we're getting secondhand awkwardness just thinking about it.

These two have been serving corporate frenemy energy since 1994's Interview with the Vampire — the first and last time they ever worked together and frankly, their commitment to this three-decade-long potentially passive-aggressive dance is almost admirable. That's longer than most marriages, lads. Hell, that's longer than all their marriages!

Rumours of the feud all started years ago, when Brad decided to spill some very specific tea about working with Tom on Interview with the Vampire.

"There came a point during filming when I started really resenting him. He's North Pole, I'm South," Brad said, as per Far Out Magazine.

"He's always coming at you with a handshake, whereas I may bump into you. There was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation. It wasn't nasty by any means, not at all. But it was just there, and it bugged me a bit."

Not exactly a glowing review about your co-star, am I right?

Since then, these two have been locked in what can only be described as Hollywood's longest-running game of professional one-upmanship (or at least, according to clueless onlookers).

When both released World War II films in close succession (Pitt's Inglourious Basterds and Cruise's Valkyrie), the rumour mill went into overdrive. Because apparently, there can only be one Brad or Tom making Nazi-fighting movies at a time. The rules are very clear about how rivalrous former work colleagues may behave.

"There's a reason they haven't worked together in 30 years. They clashed so badly when they shot Interview with the Vampire, neither of them has ever been able to move past it," a source recently told Closer. "They play it down publicly, but it's no secret they can't stand each other."

Some have attributed their alleged tiff to the fact that Tom 'outperformed' Brad in Interview with the Vampire. Definitely some feud-worthy theories!!

But in the lead-up to the F1 premiere, both actors seemed to be extending olive branches. Cruise called Pitt "a hell of a driver". Meanwhile, Brad told E! News he'd actually be willing to work with Tom again.

"Well, I'm not going to hang my ass off an airplane, s*** like that," Brad said. "When he does something again that's on the ground."

Then came the moment we'd all been anticipating: their first public appearance together in 24 years.

And if you're wondering why these men are suddenly playing supportive best pals on the red carpet, it's because F1 was directed by Joseph Kosinski — who also worked on Top Gun: Maverick. So this is more like going to after-work drinks and discovering your old work bestie is now close personal pals with your old work nemesis. A true conundrum!

Because, let's be honest, the red carpet photos from the F1 premiere are giving us major "bumped into my ex at the supermarket" energy. You know the vibe: forced smiles, awkward body language, and the distinct impression that both parties would rather be literally anywhere else.

Fans are calling the interaction "weird" and "awkward," which honestly feels like the most accurate description of any corporate frenemy encounter ever documented.

Tom is known for big displays of PDA where his pals are concerned: think huge hugs with Michael B Jordan at the Mission: Impossible premiere, or big bro embraces with Glen Powell for Twisters. But here? A decidedly firm handshake.

But here's the thing — we're not judging. Who amongst us hasn't had that one colleague who brings out our most competitive, slightly unhinged side? The person who makes you question whether you're being professional or petty when you CC their manager on that email?

Corporate frenemies are a workplace essential. They keep you sharp, motivated, and occasionally questioning your life choices. They're the reason you practice your surprised yet pleased face in the mirror before company announcements, just in case they get promoted instead of you.

So while Tom and Brad continue their decades-long dance of professional politeness mixed with barely concealed rivalry, we'll be here for it. Because honestly? Their commitment to maintaining this level of awkward tension is almost inspiring.

Now, if you'll excuse us, we need to go practice our own "totally fine with seeing you here" smile for Monday's team meeting.
