We've all felt it. The calendar flips to June or July, the mornings are darker, the days blur together and suddenly you're stuck in a mid-year rut.

Maybe your motivation has gone on a winter holiday without you or your energy levels are somewhere between "meh" and "can I just hibernate until spring?". If you're nodding along, you're in good company — because the mid-year slump is a universal experience.

Whether it's the post-holiday comedown, the relentless routine or just the winter blues, feeling flat or unmotivated at this time of year is completely normal. So, what can we do about it?

Here are some easy ways to give your routine a much-needed refresh:

1. Don't forget your muscles.

When we talk about overall health and wellbeing, we often overlook our muscles. Our bones and muscles hold our entire body to be able to move and stay active — and at times we can experience muscle aches. These symptoms aren't just "in your head" — they're a real part of the body's natural response.

Ostelin Calcium & Vitamin D3 + Magnesium. This supplement is specifically designed to help relieve muscle tiredness, muscle cramps and mild muscle spasms when dietary intake is inadequate. It also maintains bone strength. Magnesium plays an important role in muscle health while calcium and vitamin D3 support bone health. For women 35 and over, supporting muscle and bone health is a must for staying active and feeling your best.

2. Try a new form of exercise and have fun with it.

If your usual workout feels more like a chore than an endorphin boost, it's time to mix things up.

The best exercise for your body is the one you actually enjoy — so why not try something new? Swap your regular walk for a dance class, join a group pilates session or give resistance training a go (think: free weights, resistance bands or even body weight exercises like squats and push-ups).

Not only does switching up your exercise routine keep things interesting but it also challenges different muscle groups and can help slow down that natural decline in muscle mass. Plus, regular movement is a proven mood-booster and can help shake off those mid-year blahs.

3. Book a solo date (yes, really).

When was the last time you treated yourself to a day out — just you, no partner, no kids, no obligations? Solo dates are the perfect way to reset and refocus. Whether it's a museum visit, a pottery class, a long walk in the park or a spa day, taking time for yourself can be just what the doctor ordered.

Solo dates give you space to reflect, recharge and reconnect with what you actually enjoy. And let's be honest: sometimes the best company is your own.

4. Set new short-term goals and celebrate the small wins.

If those plans you had for this year's big resolutions have fizzled, don't stress. Short-term, achievable goals are the secret sauce to regaining motivation. Think: "I'll stretch every morning this week" or "I'll read two new books this month". These bite-sized objectives are easier to stick to, give you a sense of progress and can give you a new sense of purpose.

Research shows that ticking off small goals gives your brain a dopamine boost — the feel-good chemical that keeps you motivated. So, make your goals SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. And don't forget to celebrate every little win.

5. Change your environment.

Sometimes a change of scenery is all it takes to lift your mood. Rearranging your living space, decluttering your desk or adding a few indoor plants can make your environment feel new and energising. Even small tweaks, like swapping out your usual coffee spot or taking your lunch break outside, can break up the monotony.

6. Give yourself time to rest.

Mid-year is the perfect time to check in on your self-care habits. Are you getting enough sleep? Drinking enough water? Taking time to unwind? Prioritising rest isn't lazy — it's essential for your physical and mental health. Try a digital detox for an evening, take a bath or simply give yourself permission to do nothing for a little while.

7. Think about how far you've come.

Finally, take a moment to reflect on how far you've come this year. What have you achieved? What challenges have you overcome? Reflection isn't about dwelling on what hasn't happened — it's about acknowledging your progress and thinking about what you'd like the months ahead to look like.
