'I was in a funk. Then I learnt about the "time travelling" theory.'

Recently, I was in a bit of a funk. The days were blending together, my motivation had waned, and my closest ally was my bed.

It was there, in fact, with my head on my pillow, that I stumbled upon a video that snapped me back to reality.

"When I'm in a little bit of a funk, I like to do this time travelling day," said Sonya Trachsel in a TikTok video.

Searching for anything that would release me from my mental quicksand, I listened with alacrity.

"I pretend my 80-year-old self gets to come to this day today and relive it," said Sonya.

"You have to get real with it. Close your eyes. Imagine yourself sitting in your chair, and then you're here today. You're your age, you're in your body.

"How would you spend this day, knowing that everything worked out? Probably a little less worried and maybe finally, have some fun."

Watch: 'Whenever I'm in a funk, I have a 'time travelling' day.' Post continues after video.

The thought kicked me out of my stupor, and I wasn't the only one.

"You just changed my life," wrote one user in the comments.

"Pretty sure this just changed my brain," added another.

"Actually a 10/10 concept."

"This is genius! Don't take youth for granted."

Others were a bit more pragmatic, with one writing: "Sorry Granny me. You're going to work."

I chuckled. I'm not exactly the introspective type, but I decided to give it a try.

So, I closed my eyes and pictured myself old. Slower. Stiffer. Definitely nostalgic.

And I imagined her, me, getting this exact day back. I instantly knew the first thing she would do.

My mum picked up the phone after two rings.

"Hi possum! How are you?"

We caught up on life, books, and how hot Jonathan Bailey is. I told her about my 'time travel' day.

"That sounds lovely, sweetie. So, what's on the agenda for today?"

Good question. I said my goodbyes and got out of bed, knocking on my best friend's door.

"Imagine your 80-year-old self has come back to this day. What would she do right now?" I asked her, before she'd even opened her eyes.

"Have a coffee," she grunted.

One oat cappuccino later and she was on board with my 'time travel' day.

Admittedly, we spent far too long trying to think of a ~fun~ activity.

Spontaneous road trip? Zoo? Aquarium?

The decision paralysis was too much, until finally.

"Bottomless brunch?"

"Immediately yes."

Many mimosas later, we were laughing, talking about guys, and probably annoying the hell out of every other patron.

It was nothing we hadn't done before, but I really took in how lucky I was to be sharing this phase of life, and even an apartment, with my best friend.

We paid the bill and, doing our best impression of Carrie Bradshaw, stumbled through the streets of the city.

Our 'time travel' exercise quickly became an excuse to spend all of our disposable income.

"Eighty-year-old me would loooooove this Coach bag!!!" my friend exclaimed to a confused sales assistant.

Afterwards, we sat down in a park.

"What if we're still living together at 80?" my friend asked me.

"At the rate our dating life is going, we probably will be," came my reply.

We observed the people around us; some old, some young, some laughing, one crying.

I watched as an elderly man on a bench fiddled with his hearing aid. He rubbed his right knee a few times and then picked it up with his own hands, giving it a few tentative bends. Then, using his cane as leverage, he slowly stood up and stumbled his way down the path.

"We should dance tonight," I said softly to my friend.

"Okay," she agreed. "But I'm going to need more carbs to soak up these mimosas."

After lining our stomachs, we went home and got ready for the night. I messaged some friends to join us.

We left the apartment with makeup brushes sprawled all around our bathroom. Our rejected outfits littered the floors.

Meeting up with our other friends at a bar, we told them about our 'time travel' day.

"Oh, 80-year-old me would definitely want me to get lucky tonight," shared one of our friends.

We cheers-ed.

The dance floor was sweaty and sticky, and the music was straight out of a Glassons playlist. For the first time, I loved every second.

Of course, not every day is going to be filled with mimosas and Dua Lipa on repeat, but it was a nice reminder to enjoy my youth while it lasts, especially when I'm in a funk.

Oh, and my friend did get lucky that night.
