A mum-of-two's photos prove that weight is just a number on a scale.

We’ve been told time and time again that your weight isn’t always the best measure of health – in fact, sometimes it can be downright misleading.

British blogger Nikki Rees provided another reminder recently when she posted two photos of herself taken two years apart. At age 34, Nikki has a different body shape to now, 36, but she weighs the same amount.

It supports an argument for throwing the scales away if you find yourself obsessing over them in an unhealthy way.

Nikki used the photos to talk about how her relationship with food has changed over the past two years.

“Two years ago eating sweets and takeaway and junk all day would send me into a downward spiral of feeling bad about myself,” she said.

“All that yummy food would actually fuel my EXCUSES to quit exercise, to not bother balancing the treats out with nutritious alternatives.”

“Now… I know the difference between eating well and eating poorly. And if a day happens where I binge eat cake and a tub of butter. I leave it at just that… a day that happened.”

Nikki isn’t the only woman who has shown us that weight is just a number on a scale. In July last year fitness blogger Kelsey Wells posted three photos of herself on Instagram, with a difference of little more than two kilograms between the first and last.

“Screw the scale. I figured it was time for a friendly, yet firm reminder. You guys. Please stop getting hung up on the number on the stupid scale!” she wrote.

“Please stop thinking your weight equals your progress and for the love of everything please stop letting your weight have any effect whatsoever on your self-esteem like I used to.”

Around the same time, Yola, a fitness trainer from the Netherlands, posted a ‘then and now’ image of herself to Instagram with 6kg difference but hardly any to the look of her body.

“Three years, six kilos and a new bikini,” the caption read. “I was scrolling back in my phone and found this ‘old’ (non-flexed) picture. Weight is just a number.”

Have you thrown away the scales and felt better for it?
