Sarah, Tony, Jessica – they’re the names of just a few of my childhood imaginary friends. (Yes, I had more than one.) Though they had slightly varying traits, they were all generally super pleasant to be around and only ever did what I told them to do.
But for three-year-old Ruby, her imaginary friend named ‘Grateful’ seemed more like a character pulled from her nightmares.
“This is my imaginary mum, Grateful,” Ruby wrote next to the drawing of her imagined mum.
Holly Wainwright speaks about the reality of being in a hotel room with small children. (Post continues after audio.)
“Her yellow eyelashes mean she can see in the dark – she only comes to see me at night-time. It scares me sometimes, but I always want her to come back. She has two babies in her belly. She’s 14 but can never have a birthday,” she explained.
So, she doesn’t age, contacts Ruby at night, and frightens the toddler on occasion. We don’t mean to alarm you, but Grateful sounds an awful lot like a ghost.
Ruby, you have a ghost. This is straight up terrifying. pic.twitter.com/DM0y77CWHI
