Jennifer Lawrence, star of the Silver Linings Playbook, tripped up the stairs as she went to collect her Best Actress Oscar at the Academy Awards:
As a total Oscars tragic, my immediate reaction was one of pity for the poor girl, who had just had the biggest night of her life buggered up a tad… and I’m ashamed to admit that my reaction was coupled with a little bit of “oooh, good some drama on what has been a pretty ordinary night” too.
And while my attention was momentarily drawn away from Lawrence in favour of dear Hugh Jackman (Aussie Aussie Aussie) who leaped dashingly to his feet to offer her an outstretched hand – I couldn’t help but think “Wow, she falls so beautifully, she’s like a Disney Princess”.
But through the rest of the night Lawrence showed a remarkably Un-Disney-Princess-esque face to the world. And it was one of the most endearing things I’ve seen in the decidedly NOT endearing world of Hollywood.
In response to (a completely inane) question from a journalist about what was going through her mind when she fell on the stairs, 22-year-old Lawrence replied: “A bad word that I can’t say… that starts with ‘F’.”
Well. Fair enough.
The woman is Just. So. Likeable. She’s like the anti-Hollywood.
While she looks fantastic in a big fancy frock and a posh up-do, she speaks and acts like she’s your good mate.
