'An open letter to whoever changed The White Lotus theme song.'

I'm a sucker for a good theme song.

There's a reason I had the Buffy the Vampire Slayer opening tune as my ringtone for the better half of my teen years.

And literally every time the Gilmore Girls credits play, I jump up and dance along, pumping my fists in the air like I'm crumping at a nightclub.

But theme music was elevated to a new level when The White Lotus made its debut. Season 1 was catchy, but Season 2's techno-infused operatic remix was earworm perfection.

It was a hit!

Reminder: this was the life-altering theme song for Season 2 of The White Lotus.

It was an unskippable song. The theme demanded to be heard in full, as the beat built to a powerful crescendo.

The world was never the same.

Well, that was until we all heard it.

The reaction online is one of confusion.

Why would y'all mess with perfection?

"Genuinely hate that Mike White had the audacity to change The White Lotus intro song for season 3. I was choreographing a dance for episode one. I'm shook," wrote one user on X.

Audacity is one word for it!

In these trying times, the world needed The White Lotus theme song. It was the one constant in life in this unpredictable, cruel existence. Of course, the internet had a lot to say about it.

When asked about the theme song, Mike White said "I really liked this orchestral thing. I might go with the orchestral. We'll see," he told Deadline in 2023.

"I mean, it has to fit Thailand, but it doesn't mean that it has to mimic local music or anything like that."

To add insult to injury, the show's composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer told Variety that he thought the Season 2 theme music was "terrible."

Rude!!! A lot of people would disagree with you there, my friend.

Until Season 4 (hopefully) brings back the song we all know and love, we will just have to smile because The White Lotus theme song happened and not just cry that it's over *said between sobs*.
