The Walsh Sisters on Stan is based on Marian Keyes' best-selling books and is set to be an instant classic.

For so many people, their favourite reading moments have been with a Marian Keyes book in hand.

Namely, the books that chronicle the stories of the Dublin-dwelling Walsh family, made up of Mammy and Daddy Walsh and their five daughters: Claire, Maggie, Anna, Rachel, and Helen.

In the book Watermelon, we delve into Claire's story as she finds out that her husband, James, has been having an affair — and on the day she is due to give birth to her first child. In Rachel's Holiday and Again, Rachel, we follow Rachel's journey through rehab to the moment her new, perfect life is turned upside down when a past love reappears. In Angels, we follow Maggie to Hollywood, and in the touching Anybody Out There (and the follow-up book My Favourite Mistake), we see a story of love and loss through the eyes of Anna. And finally, The Mystery of Mercy Close takes us into the mysterious and chaotic world of the youngest Walsh sister, Helen, and her drowning private investigator business.

Now, in an event that feels as if it's been pulled directly from the pages of any bookworm's dream journal, all these beloved and worldwide best-selling books have been adapted into a new series that is set to become an instant classic.

Stan has acquired the exclusive rights to The Walsh Sisters, the upcoming six-episode comedy/drama series inspired by these Marian Keyes books, and it's coming soon to Australian screens.

Directed by Ian Fitzgibbon (known for Hullraisers and Moone Boy), the series is set against the glorious background of Dublin, Ireland, and weaves together the stories of the Walsh sisters as they navigate the peaks and troughs of their late 20s and 30s.

Bringing to life the story of a family who are chaotic and dysfunctional — while still being extremely lovable — The Walk Sisters is a celebration of the beauty (and brutality) of sisterhood in all of its different forms. It's a world full of in-jokes, hand-me-down resentments, and more than a few old wounds that will be opened over the course of the highly anticipated series.

The Walsh Sisters weaves the most memorable, heart-wrenching and hilarious storylines from Marian Keyes' beloved novels together, and the final product is a television event that shows the sisters coming together in the face of heartbreak, grief, addiction, and parenthood.

Headlining the cast of The Walsh Sisters is Louisa Harland (Derry Girls), who plays the troubled Anna Walsh. She is joined by rising talent Caroline Menton (Oddity) in the role of party-girl sister Rachel, while Danielle Galligan (House of Guinness) brings eldest sister Claire to life. BAFTA-nominated Máiréad Tyers (Extraordinary) plays the fearless baby of the family, Helen, with the final Walsh sister interpreted by multi-hyphenate stage, screen and screenwriting talent Stefanie Preissner (Solpadeine is My Boyfriend), who plays family 'white sheep' Maggie.

In addition to appearing as Maggie, Preissner also led the writing team with four episodes of The Walsh Sisters, while award-winning writer Kefi Chadwick (Rivals) completes the team with two episodes.

Adding an extra touch of star power to the cast is famed Irish American actor Aidan Quinn, whose most recent project is Oscar-winning director Neil Jordan's film adaptation of his novel The Well of Saint Nobody. Quinn will star as Jack 'Daddy' Walsh alongside Carrie Crowley, who plays the eccentric but loveable Mammy Walsh.

Marian Keyes remains one of the world's best storytellers, and her witty words, multidimensional characters, cosy settings, dynamic family dramas and sweet love stories have all been heightened and reimagined within the new series The Walsh Sisters.
