They're the hottest male celebs on the planet. This is why.

These are the men who stand with us.

Recently, more and more men of Hollywood have been adding their voices to the push for equality. They call themselves feminist or they are pro-feminist. They have identified themselves as allies in the struggle for equality.

And let’s face it: There’s nothing hotter.

1. Mark Ruffalo

Actor and all-round spunky good guy, Mark Ruffalo recently penned at letter in response to the online trend for young women to pose with signs describing why they don’t need feminism. Here’s an excerpt:

“In short, you know not what you speak of. You reap the rewards of these women’s sacrifices every day of your life. When you grin with your cutsey sign about how you’re not a feminist, you ignorantly spit on the sacred struggle of the past 200 years. You bite the hand that has fed you freedom, safety, and a voice.

“In short, kiss my ass, you ignorant little jerks.”

Preach it, Ruffalo. We’re listening.

2. Jon Hamm

Our imaginary boyfriend Jon Hamm has just stepped up a notch on the ladder of love – if that’s even possible. In an interview with the Daily Mail, the Mad Men star compared where women are today, with his character, Don Draper, in the 1960s. He said:

“Men ruled the roost and women played a subservient role [in the 1960s]. Working wives were a rarity, because their place was in the home, bringing up the kids. The women who did work were treated as second class citizens, because it was a male-dominated society. That was a fact of life then. But it wouldn’t be tolerated today, and that’s quite right in my book … People look back on those days through a thick veil of nostalgia, but life was hard if you were anything other than a rich, powerful, white male.”

Who knew Don Draper was so progressive?

3. Prince Harry

Everybody’s favourite royal, Prince Harry brought men into the fight for equal rights in a speech for the CHIME For Change concert. He said,

“When women are empowered, they immeasurably improve the lives of everyone around them — their families, their communities, and their countries. This is not just about women, we men need to recognize the part we play too. Real men treat women with dignity and give them the respect they deserve.”

4. Daniel Craig

James Bond, sorry, Daniel Craig is a man after our own hearts. For International Women’s Day in 2011 he dressed as a woman and starred down the barrel of a camera as Judi Dench’s voiceover explained:

“Women are responsible for two thirds of the work done worldwide, yet earn only 10 percent of the total income and own 1 percent of the property… So, are we equals? Until the answer is yes, we must never stop asking.”

5. Benedict Cumberbatch

Sherlock star and all-round charmer Benedict Cumberbatch, 38, just keeps getting better and better.

A little while ago, his devoted followers nicknamed their collective fanhood something very interesting. The ‘Cumberbitches’. Yes, really. In an interview with Caitlin Moran (author of How to be a Woman) this is what the glorious Benedict had to say:

“It’s not even politeness. I won’t allow you to be my bitches. I think it sets feminism back so many notches. You are… Cumberpeople.”

6. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

The 32-year-old actor who won us over in 10 Things I Hate About You, isn’t finished just yet. Sitting down with Ellen Degeneres, he explained his mother’s immense influence on the way he see’s the world. He said:

“So not only was feminism something that my mom taught me about, motherhood is right at the core of what feminism is or isn’t. A lot of people who don’t identify with that word feel like that word is somehow against motherhood. Personally, I don’t take it that way. For me, as a feminist, it should be up to the woman to decide if she wants to be a mom… If that’s what she wants to do full-time, that’s awesome, that’s what my mom did. But if she wants to go out and have a career apart from being a mom, then she should be able to do that as well, and that’s to the benefit of everybody.”

Amen.
