Um. Netflix has changed the ending of The Notebook and WE ARE NOT OK. 

In proof that nothing riles romantic film fans up more than The Notebook being tampered with, viewers have unleashed on Netflix for streaming a version with an alternative ending.

An ending which doesn’t portray (*spoilers*) Noah and Allie peacefully dying in their sleep together – the scene which has reduced even the most hardened film fans to ugly tears over the years since its release.

(If the “why didn’t you write me” scene didn’t get you first, that is.)

Blasphemy, right?

If you haven’t seen the film starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, it follows the love story of Noah and Allie as told by an older Noah to his wife, who is suffering from dementia in a nursing home.

It’s a tear-jerking classic that most of us have watched approximately 8,000 times, so naturally, the fact that it’s on Netflix in some countries has made us a little bit jealous.

…Until we heard about the butchered ending.

Instead of Allie and Noah passing away together after she finally remembers their love story, the UK Netflix version ends with the pair holding hands before cutting to the credits.

Which means the nurse never walks in and discovers they’ve died, leading viewers who haven’t seen the original to believe Noah will start again from scratch the next day.

Fans, who are rightly peeved by the omission, have been pretty vocal in their dissatisfaction with the alternative ending.

As if Netflix has chopped the end of The Notebook. Changes the whole ending. Like I can’t wrap my head around the fact that there may be people out there who have watched The Notebook and don’t know the real ending. They’ve not experienced it properly. What the heck. I’m raging.
