"She was a little nervous." Before she died, Princess Diana was set to star in The Bodyguard 2.

Princess Diana was many things in her short life.

A member of the British royal family, a wife, a mother, a kindergarten teacher, a nanny, a charity advocate, a philanthropist, an activist and an inspiration to many.

But she also nearly became… an actress.

Earlier this week, actor Kevin Costner shared that Princess Diana was in talks to appear as his co-star in The Bodyguard 2.

If we told you we were totally chill and nonplussed about this prospect we’d be lying.

In fact, we actually can’t quite believe that nearly happened…

In a recent interview with People TV, Costner admitted that Diana was nervous about one particular thing in the scrapped sequel – the kissing scenes.

“I just remember her being incredibly sweet on the phone when she asked the questions,” Costner said.

“She goes, ‘Are we going to have like a kissing scene?’ But she said it in a very respectful [way] – she was a little nervous because I think her life was very governed,” he told the show.

He told Diana that “there’s going to be a little bit of that, but we can make that okay too.”

The actor also shared that he got the script for the sequel the day before Diana died in a car crash in Paris.

Diana died on August 31, 1997. She was just 36.

In the end, the sequel was never re-written with another leading lady.

The Bodyguard was a box office hit in its day, and every bit a romantic comedy.

We can't help but think, had it gone ahead, WHAT WOULD ELIZABETH HAVE THOUGHT? After all, the British royal family is about as traditional as they come.

Of course by this point Diana was divorced from Prince Charles, and we know for a fact she would have had Fergie in her corner.

During the interview, Costner told People TV that it was in fact Sarah Ferguson who set up the meeting between him and Diana.

"She was the one that set it up, and she never said, ‘Well, what about me? I’m a princess too.’ She was just so supportive of the idea,” he said.
