Alicia and Sonny were this year's The Block villains. She just told us the 'worst' part.

This year's season of The Block was another one for the history books: the first WA team ever won, the teams built their entire homes, and in less good news, two houses did not sell at auction.

Awkies. But one team that did manage to sell at auction was Sonny and Alicia, whose home was swept up when buyer's agent Frank Valentic offered a bid of $3,060,000.

Thanks to the prizes they won during the season and the auction's profits, the married parents of three walked away with $120,000 and a new car. Not bad!

The season wasn't without its bumpy moments. Initially besties with Taz and Britt, Sonny and Alicia ended up clashing with the WA coppers, leading to a tense rivalry developing by the end of the season.

As Taz and Britt were fan favourites — and eventual winners — this meant Sonny and Alicia became the season's 'villains' and they suffered some nasty trolling from viewers as a result.

But now that the dust has settled on the season, where do they stand? We spoke to Alicia to find out all the updates.

Where are The Block's Alicia and Sonny now?

Alicia is aware that her team was lucky to even sell at auction, with both Em and Ben, along with Han and Can, failing to sell their properties.

"Sonny and I are so fortunate to have sold on a bad day on The Block. Sonny and I did pretty amazing. But the day was filled with mixed emotions," Alicia said.

"Oh my God, it was an emotional roller coaster. I was holding my breath and I was forgetting to breathe. I kept grabbing [host] Shelly [Craft] on the arm and reminding myself to breathe."

As for what they're going to do with profits, they're going to put it back into renovating their own home as they continue their flipping journey.

"We're getting our house ready for sale. We're going to reno our house that we're currently in now. I've actually just called the agent and he's going to come around to tell us how to get the most for our buck out of this house," Alicia said.

"Then we'll probably buy another one and renovate that, and we'll probably flip the next one as well," she said.

Sonny and Alicia's time on The Block wasn't without its low points. As the season was airing and their edit began to emphasise their feud with Taz and Britt, they faced an onslaught of abuse from viewers.

"We're so lucky that sort of stopped now. But we had a differing opinion from the Australian sweethearts [Taz and Britt], essentially. It didn't go down too well. I tried to remind people in previous interviews, you get a small snippet of the story," she said.

"We copped it pretty hard, unfortunately, but it is all good now. Everyone we meet is so amazing. They couldn't be nicer. I went out shopping on the weekend, and we still get stopped, and everyone comes for a hug and wants a photo."

Alicia disclosed that some trolls had obtained Sonny's phone number. As it's listed under his business, he couldn't disconnect the number so they had to block a barrage of calls and texts.

"Sonny's not hard to find because he's a plumber, so they just looked him up. Someone leaked it on Reddit, our work account, and then it just started coming in thick and fast, with the Google one-star reviews," she said.

"The worst of it was private messages to our personal accounts, messages to Sonny's work phone and work email. It was just nonstop text messages and just disgusting emails, telling us that I'm a disgusting mother, my parents would be ashamed or they'd be ashamed if I was their daughter."

Alicia said she wasn't surprised to not be a fan favourite, but didn't believe the couple deserved the response they got. "I'm not for everyone — I'm not naive. I'm old enough to understand that I'm not everyone's cup of tea, and that's OK. They're probably not mine either. I just didn't think people would go to that extent," she said.

"These disagreements with other contestants are sometimes over and done with in one day, in 20 minutes, but it plays out for one or two weeks at a time on the show."

Along with renovating their home for sale, the couple hopes to relax back into their usual family time. "We've been so absent from our kids' lives this year and that's not the parents we are — we're very hands-on," she said.

"Just getting back to my life and trying to take the reins on getting the house renovated."

As for any regrets from The Block, Alicia has none. In fact, she would do it all over again. "We had the best time ever. If you rang us tomorrow and said you're back on, we'd go without hesitation," she said.

"We made some amazing mates, and not only like the cast, but all the crew and production — we honestly made mates for life outside of the show."
