Sonny and Alicia are a hard-working married couple from the Gold Coast with three kids, and they're set to charm Australia as contestants on the 2025 season of The Block.

Sonny, 44, is a seasoned plumber with 25 years' industry experience, while Alicia, 42, recently managed a busy dental practice before stepping away to join the show. They have been married for a decade and have been together for 14 years.

Sonny and Alicia are no strangers to renovation, as they've previously built their family home and renovated a granny flat.

"We are by no means epic renovators, but not completely green," Sonny told 9Entertainment.

Sonny's tradie skills and Alicia's management experience could be a strong combo.

It's not a huge surprise that this dynamic duo almost made it on The Block once before. The couple made the shortlist for the Phillip Island season of The Block but didn't make the final cast.

"I was really upset last year that we just missed out, so when we got the call to say we were in it was an amazing feeling," Alicia told 9Entertainment.

And already, they're proving that they are one of the teams to watch: they dominated bathroom week, missing out on the win (secured by Robby and Mat) by a tiny margin.

They received an impressive score of 25.5, as Darren gave them a nine, Marty gave them a score of 8.5, and Shayna gave them an eight out of ten.

The moment that almost ended Sonny and Alicia's The Block journey.

The couple are devoted parents to three children: a daughter Aria, and sons Boston and Koa, and have said their kids played a huge role in their decision to sign up for the show.

The timing aligned perfectly, as their kids were finally old enough to handle their parents being away for the duration of the competition.

However, their start was dramatic: days before filming began, their kids and Alicia's parents had to evacuate due to a cyclone hitting the Gold Coast, making for a stressful beginning to their Block journey.

When the couple were expected to fly down to Melbourne to start the show, a cyclone hit the Gold Coast.

"The Gold Coast [airport] shut down because the cyclone hit. We were one of the last flights out," Alicia told TV WEEK.

The couple's kids and Alicia's parents had to relocate to friends' houses to seek shelter as the weather worsened and the power was cut off.

This meant that in week one of The Block, the couple were straddling sorting out their family troubles, along with working on their first room.

"There was no off switch that first week," Sonny said. "No one could go back for a week, and we were fully expecting someone to go home and discover a tree through our house."

And they managed to almost win that room? Super impressive!

What have Sonny and Alicia said about filming The Block?

The couple has a non-nonsense approach to dealing with drama between the teams.

"If something is bothering me, I will say it," Alicia teased to 9Entertainment.

The couple hopes that their personalities come across accurately on the reality show.

"We were 100 per cent ourselves the entire way through and always spoke our mind. We are proud of the way we always said our bit and moved on," they told TV Week.

"Hopefully, we are well received. Although we are not naive to the fact that not everyone will like us. We'll just choose to ignore, and keep on going. We know who we are and so do all those that we hold close."

That said, Alicia added that "Sonny and I aren't afraid of confrontation," so stay tuned to see if any big blow-ups are around the corner.

What will Sonny and Alicia do with the money if they win The Block?

Sonny and Alicia plan to watch the series with their whole family. As for winning? They have some big plans.

"If we were fortunate enough to win The Block we'd pay it straight off our home loan. It would make a world of difference to our whole family," Alicia told New Idea.

"We'd also love to take the kids to Disneyland! Nothing like making lifetime memories with your kids."

Lucky kiddos, hey!
