Tools up! The 2025 season of The Block is almost upon us, and it feels so good.

This year, the show is set in the picturesque town of Daylesford in Victoria, where for the first time, the contestants face the huge challenge of building five homes entirely from scratch. No biggie!

Catch up on all the big changes and announcements here.

We can expect another stellar The Block season with high-stakes competition, cast friction and drama, and plenty of spectacular (and not-so-good) rooms and renovations.

Without further ado, these are the five teams taking part in The Block 2025.

Sonny and Alicia.

Where they're from: Gold Coast, Queensland. What they do: Sonny, 44, is a plumber and Alicia, 42, manages a dental practice.

These two have been together for 14 years (married for 10) and have three kids: Aria, 12, Boston, 11, and Koa, 8.

They're charismatic, down-to-earth, and refreshingly honest aka basically the couple you'd want to grab a coffee with.

After missing out on the Phillip Island season, they were absolutely chuffed when they got the call for Season 21. "I was really upset last year that we just missed out, so when we got the call to say we were in, it was an amazing feeling," Alicia said.

Sonny is a small business owner who has been wielding a wrench for 25 years. Born in Hobart but raised on the Gold Coast from age three, he lives for swimming and touch footy. Plot twist: he also loves writing and will apparently bring those skills to The Block's challenges this year.

Alicia has got an infectious laugh and beautiful energy that screams 'mum of the group.' Straight-talking and conflict-resolving, she's not one to let things fester.

"If something is bothering me I will say it," she says. Same, Alicia. Same.

After 14 years together, they might bicker, but they bounce back fast. "Alicia's strength is her people skills, her kindness to others and her loyalty," Sonny said. Meanwhile, Alicia reckons, "Sonny is extremely hard-working, articulate, not afraid to show emotion. You always know what he is thinking."

And this couple comes with experience: they've built their current family home and renovated a granny flat. "We are by no means epic renovators, but not completely green," Sonny said.

Robby and Mat.

Where they're from: Adelaide, South Australia. What they do: Robby, 37, owns barbershops and Mat, 41, is a world-renowned hairstylist.

These two met 15 years ago when Mat cut Robby's hair, and honestly, it sounds like the beginning of a beautiful bromance. They're the kind of dynamic duo you notice the second they walk into a room.

The decision to do The Block was Robby's call, as he applied while Mat was living his best life in Bali for his 40th. "I was sitting at home and my partner Alyssa said myself and Mat would be great on The Block and here we are," Rob said.

Mat's response? "If someone had told me with a crystal ball the likelihood of going on The Block or my house burning down, I would have said our house burning down."

Robby is a successful business owner who runs four Attaboy salons in Adelaide plus a café. A former soccer star who played in the National Premier League, he's now a dad to baby Brooks (who'll be nearly one when the show airs) with his partner Alyssa.

He admitted that being away from his son was brutal. "When I left to go on The Block, leaving him was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do."

Mat is a former figure skating champion turned internationally recognised hair stylist with his own salon (MJ Hair) and 32,300 Instagram followers. His skating background taught him determination and resilience – qualities that'll come in handy when Scott Cam starts yelling at him about his hammering skills.

Of all the teams, these boys probably have the least hands-on experience. Mat's never even watched The Block (don't tell Scotty C!), but they've built businesses, so they know a lot about project management.

Mat will handle shopping and styling while Robby will keep the tradies in check. "We are just two best mates, a hairdresser and a barber, gay and straight," Robby said. Okay, already obsessed!

Han and Can.

Where they're from: Perth, Western Australia. What they do: Han, 29, is a geologist and Can, 31, works in marketing and social media.

Meet Handy-Can and Can-Do Can (yes, those are their actual nicknames). These two met online just over a year ago and immediately bonded over their shared Block dreams.

"I have always wanted to do The Block but never had anyone to do it with," Han said.

Can was up for the challenge. "I'm creative at heart and have always had a love of real estate, so I thought why not?"

Han is a UK-born, Australia-raised mining professional who has worked all over Western Australia, including the Pilbara.

She's done everything from swimming to AFLW to ballroom dancing, but her passion lies in, well… rocks. "I was fascinated by all of that, and when I came to Australia I didn't realise geology was a thing. It's a great job, I love it," she said.

Meanwhile, Can is a creative type as she's worked in marketing and social media across fashion, higher education and events.

They're obsessed with motorbikes, renovations and their dogs. "Can has a massive heart," Han said. "She will go out of her way to help people and I couldn't imagine doing this with anyone else."

Can's equally smitten with her girlfriend. "Han is so driven and motivated. She sets goals and she achieves them," she said.

Both have construction and real estate in their blood. Han learned from her dad, helping him renovate houses for years.

They're currently renovating their own Californian bungalow in Perth. Can will bring her artistic eye and Han will deliver some boss energy to The Block.

Britt and Taz.

Where they're from: Newman, Western Australia. What they do: Both are 30-year-old police officers.

Living in Newman (a scorching-hot mining town 12 hours north of Perth), these two work together at the local police station serving the town, mining field and Indigenous communities.

They're parents to Carter, 4, and Myla, 2, and they're The Block's second police couple after All-Stars legends Alisa and Lysandra.

"I wanted to apply for The Block for years, but it was never the right timing," Britt said. "The timing now is right."

Britt is a hard worker who spent five years in car sales before joining the force. She's also an aspiring photographer specialising in family portraits and maternity shoots, and she's been a Block superfan for years.

Taz (aka Taran) was born and raised in Campbelltown in Sydney before he moved to Perth to play WAFL football. He's an Aboriginal man from the Tharawal/Dharawal People who wants to inspire Indigenous kids that anything is possible.

His biggest fear? Subzero Daylesford mornings. Fair enough, pal.

They met on Tinder nearly 10 years ago and married three years ago. Their kids are their world, and they're doing this for them.

They're self-proclaimed "amateur renovators" who've tackled window bench seats, paving and landscaping but never anything on The Block's scale.

Their style? Modern Organic Luxury — think resort vibes. Aloha!

Emma and Ben.

Where they're from: Melbourne, Victoria. What they do: Emma, 33, teaches dance and Ben, 32, is an engineer turned aspiring firefighter.

These high school sweethearts have applied for The Block SEVEN times. Seven! This season, their persistence finally paid off, and they're bringing triple-threat energy.

"We have applied so many times! We can't wait to get to Daylesford and get started," Emma said.

Emma is a former woodwork teacher turned dance instructor who happens to be one of Australia's best pole dancers. She teaches pole dancing and runs an activewear business for the pole-dancing community.

"It's such a great workout. The students are anywhere between 13 and 70 and everyone comes together, it's amazing," she said.

Ben is an engineering graduate who was accepted as a Melbourne firefighter but postponed it for The Block. He's also done stand-up comedy.

Married for three years, they met in high school, starting out as friends before officially getting together in 2011.

"She is organised, has a great rapport with everyone, and can win people over by just being herself," Ben said.

Emma is confident Ben's methodical approach will win over the judges. "Ben is a great forward planner and will organise our trades so well," she said.

The couple are looking to start a family, and this is set to a storyline on this year's The Block. Oop!

But don't underestimate these two: they've got the most experience of all contestants. They've already renovated two houses, plus started a new build. They started at 24 and have been flipping houses ever since.

"My aunty flipped houses her whole life, she is probably our inspiration," Ben said.

The Block kicks off on July 27 on Channel 9.
