What the announcement for Alec and Hilaria Baldwin’s new reality TV show is hiding.

Move aside Kardashians, because another famous family is entering the reality TV domain. 

Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Baldwin have announced their own reality series, The Baldwins, showing what life is like as a family of nine.

"We’re inviting you into our home to experience the ups and downs, the good, the bad, the wild and the crazy," Alec said in a video shared to Instagram on Tuesday.

In the video, the couple joked about Hilaria announcing another pregnancy, right before it cut to a clip of their children screaming and struggling to take a group photo.

The show, which is set to premiere in 2025, will give people an inside look into the life of the Baldwins and how they manage to raise seven kids, all under the age of 10.

But amidst the family fun, one significant aspect of Alec's life will be notably absent: His impending trial for involuntary manslaughter in connection with the tragic shooting on the set of his film Rust.

What's happening with Alec Baldwin?

With a trial looming in July and Alec maintaining his innocence, a shadow has been cast over the otherwise lighthearted series.

During the production of the Western film Rust, which Baldwin both produced and starred in, a firearm he was handling discharged, resulting in the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the injury of director Joel Souza. 

Baldwin maintains that he did not intentionally fire the weapon.

In April, the film's weapons supervisor, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was sentenced to the maximum term of 18 months in a New Mexico state penitentiary. She was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter by a jury, who concluded that she neglected to adhere to proper firearm safety procedures.

Given the ongoing legal ramifications arising from the Rust production, people online have voiced concerns about the timing and appropriateness of the reality show's announcement.

Others believe he's agreed to go on a reality show because of mounting legal fees.

Speaking to Fox News, brand expert Eric Schiffer said, "This is a needed financial injection at a time when there's a huge sucking sound in both of their wallets because of the trial."

Filming for Rust recommenced in 2023, with a scheduled release anticipated for this year.

Despite efforts by Baldwin's legal representatives to have the charge against him dismissed, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who oversaw Gutierrez-Reed's trial as well, upheld the charge in May.

Aside from Alec's legal troubles, people are also questioning something else that wasn't addressed in the short clip: Hilaria's missing accent.

Where did Hilaria Baldwin's accent go?

In 2020, Hilaria faced criticism from people who accused her of faking her heritage and pretending to be Spanish. 

Users on social media circulated videos of instances where Hilaria seemed unfamiliar with basic English terms, such as "cucumber," and highlighted discrepancies in her claims of being born in Spain during various interviews.

"You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her decade-long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person," said a user on X.

She later told the New York Times that her full name is Hillary Hayward-Thomas and while she was born in Boston, she travelled fairly often to Spain throughout her childhood. In February 2021, she addressed the controversy head-on and apologised for not being "more clear" about her background.

"I tried to be very clear," she said in a video posted on Instagram. "I’m like, I was born in Boston. That’s the first thing I told my husband. I’m a different kind of Bostonian."

She went on to explain that she is ethnically a white person, but that doesn't mean she's Spanish.

"Europe has a lot of white people in there," she said. "My family is white. Ethnically, I am a mix of many, many, many things; culturally, I grew up with the two cultures. So it’s really as simple as that."

Despite her explanation, people haven't stopped questioning where her accent has disappeared to three years later.

"Are we getting Spanish or Boston Hillary?" asked one Instagram user under the reality show announcement.

"Where did her Spanish accent go!? Did she decide to drop the whole act after she was outed?" questioned another.

It seems like we'll have to wait till 2025 to see just how much the Baldwins are willing to show on their reality series, The Baldwins.
