"He's not there to make friends." The Bachelorette's Tom on what Ryan was really like in the mansion.

When lone intruder Ryan Anderson entered The Bachelorette Australia mansion, it’s safe to say the other contestants weren’t exactly… pleased.

Since entering the show late in the game, the rescue dog advocate has hit it off with Bachelorette Angie Kent, already scoring two group dates and even a single date with the 29-year-old.

But among the other contestants, there’s one common issue: Ryan already knew Angie.

In case you missed it, Ryan actually exchanged a few DMs with the former Gogglebox star over their mutual love of rescue dogs prior to appearing on the show.

Yep, it’s basically Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy all over again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On last night’s episode of the reality show, the other contestants were left frustrated once again when Ryan took Angie away for a chat after his one-on-one date, leading contestant Tom to confront him at the cocktail party.

“Do you think it’s okay to take Angie away from a few of the boys that haven’t had a chat with her properly and yet you had the whole day with her yesterday?” Tom asked Ryan.

“Let’s not forget this is The Bachelorette, not let’s go make friends with everyone in the house,” Ryan responded.

Speaking to Mamamia following his exit from the mansion, Tom shared that he was “annoyed” that Ryan got extra time with Angie at last night’s cocktail party.

“He had so much time compared to us and he had just arrived – he was an intruder,” Tom told Mamamia.

“That sort of pissed off a lot of us. You can’t really control what Angie is after, or who she wants to talk to but if someone else does it, there’s no respect there,” he added.

“If you don’t get a single date, you only get the group dates and the cocktail party. Time is valuable, especially if you’re trying to get Angie to like you.

“I would have liked to have had a single date with her.”

For Tom and the other contestants, the news that Ryan already knew Angie was a little… frustrating.

“When they told us about his past – with him sliding into Angie’s DMs and having a connection with her outside of the house – that was a bit unfair on all of us,” Tom said.

“We were expecting an intruder at some stage – there’s always an intruder. But we didn’t expect him so soon.”

According to Tom, it was also clear behind the scenes that Ryan wasn’t in the mansion to make friends.

“He got along with a few people but he kind of isolated himself a little bit every now and then,” Tom said.

“He’s not there to make friends, really. He didn’t gel with many people,” he added.

“Let’s just put it this way – I’m not in contact with him after the show.”

Besides the tension at last night’s cocktail party, Tom said the mansion was generally drama-free.

“I don’t think there was much tension around the guys, except when Angie was around. That’s where the tension was,” Tom explained.

“When [Angie] wasn’t in the room, there wasn’t much tension. Everyone seemed much more relaxed and everyone got along much better.”

But as for how the other contestants were portrayed on screen compared to how they were in real life, Tom believes most of the contestants were portrayed fairly.

“The whole situation with Jess was a bit out there. What you saw [on screen] is exactly what he was. There were so many inappropriate things that he would do and say – even when the crew and Angie were around,” the Queenslander said.

“I think Jamie is coming across [on screen] quite intense. As a person, [the producers] can only use what they give them. That’s exactly how he has been acting and how he has been portrayed,” he added.

“But when Angie is not around, he’s a really nice guy – he’s not mean or anything like that.

“He’s a really genuine guy. He wears his heart on his sleeve and I don’t think he has a bad bone in his body. He’s just an emotional person and I guess that can come across as quite intense.”

The Bachelorette Australia airs Wednesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on Channel Ten.
