Tatiana Dokhotaru was found dead inside a Sydney apartment on May 27, 2023, nearly 24 hours after police received a triple zero call from an anonymous woman stating someone was "trying to kill me."
Today, Dokhotaru's former partner, Danny Zayat, was found guilty of murdering the 34-year-old. The jury reached its verdict after sitting through a 14-day NSW Supreme Court trial and 18 hours of deliberations, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The verdict was reached by majority direction, with 11 of the 12 jury members finding the defendant guilty.
The court was told that between 10.35pm and 11.40pm, Zayat, 30, killed Dokhotaru inside the unit by either striking her head one or more times, or through a combination of blows and head trauma from a fall.
It comes more than two years after police were called to an apartment block in Liverpool, Western Sydney, around 11.45pm.
Authorities had been called to the scene following reports of a domestic dispute via an anonymous phone call received on May 26, 2023.
The distressed caller did not specify an address.
It was Dokhotaru who made the 89-second call to triple zero shortly before her death, the jury was told.
"Yes, hi. My ex-boyfriend's here and he's trying to kill me," she told the operator before the call was cut off.
Police allege the call ended abruptly when Dokhotaru's phone was hurled out of the apartment window.
Officers arrived at the unit block around 3am on Saturday morning, but were unable to find the apartment where the incident had occurred.
