The winter staples you won't regret buying.

Thanks to our brand partner, Target

As the days get shorter and the cool evenings settle in, I’m secretly pleased to be giving in to my winter hermit tendencies, wrapping up in my favourite blankets and scuffing around the house in well-worn slippers. Sure, I could go out, but when home is a cosy haven, why would I?

But I’m still eyeing up some solid winter staples to see me through the cold months and to become repeat favourites for winters to come. I’m talking natural fibres like beautiful Australian cotton that will feel great and wash well, and warm basics to keep the whole family feeling snug and looking stylish (okay, stylish might be a stretch for me and my husband, but the kids look great in anything).

This season’s homewares and clothing from Target are definitely nailing the brief. Beautiful Australian fibres, gorgeous warm tones and the kind of clothes that’ll work just as well on the soccer sidelines as they will at a stylish Sunday lunch.

They’ve got great neutrals and basics that will help what’s already in my wardrobe work harder and their homewares are sure to add a little extra something to any kind of décor. I’m sold.

Spencer Check Flannelette Quilt Cover Set, $30-$70

Bedtime is the best time. Is there anything better than crawling into soft sheets under a beautiful bedspread and escaping into the pages of the book? Be honest, when did you last treat yourself to some new sheets and bedding? Considering we spend a third of our lives in bed, we really should invest in making it a great place to be.

This gorgeous warm orange and white check quilt cover is made from 100 per cent Australian cotton and designed for comfort. The orange tones feel instantly warm and welcoming, and it’s beautifully soft. Try pairing it with cream and neutral cushions, along with a throw, or complement the orange with navy or baby blue for a pop of winter colour.

It comes in single through to super king sizing and is machine washable — essential for any potential bedtime tea spills. Whoops!

Plain Dyed Flannelette Sheet Set, $50-$60

There comes a time every year when the changeover happens. I ditch my thin summer sheets for the heft and warmth of the flannelette sheet set and we’re all clear — winter’s here.

These flannelette sheets in stone are an absolute classic. Made from high-quality cotton, they’re soft, breathable and will last the test of time. And this colour pairs so beautifully with any existing bedding, making it super versatile.

The only downside? You really won’t want to get out of bed on those cold winter mornings.

Fenton Knit Cushion, $20

Can you ever have too many decorative cushions? I think not. The beauty of the Fenton Knit Cushion in natural is that it will make any setting feel extra special — your bed, the sofa, an armchair, even the floor if you’re into building cushion nests in front of the TV (just me?).

The natural colour is timeless and elegant. Anything in this shade of cream screams quiet luxury, in my opinion. But at such an affordable price point, you could get one for every room of the house. Add to cart.

Women’s Longline Shacket, $80

This is the ultimate look-good, feel-good shacket. Not only does it tick all of the seasonal styling boxes, with its neutral check pattern, longline length and oversized button detailing, but it also happens to be made from recycled materials.

I love that you can throw this on over everything from activewear to jeans or even a slip skirt, boots and a neutral knit for something more elevated. Plus, it has real pockets, which always get a big thumbs up from me. Why don’t all clothes come with pockets? It really should be mandatory.

Super Soft Turtle Neck Jumper, $40

This is the jumper you’ll be reaching for all season. A delicious wool blend means it’s super soft and extra warm, and the turtleneck and long thick-cuffed sleeves mean you’ll be well protected from that chill in the air.

Such a classic, it will pair so well with what’s already in your closet, whether it’s a printed maxi skirt, wide-legged jeans or chic pleather pants.

Super High Rise Full Length Wide Leg Denim Jeans, $50

It’s got to be said, Target’s denim game is strong. Some of my favourite on-repeat denim is from Target, and now I’ve got my eye on these super high-rise, wide-leg jeans. I love the idea of white or cream jeans for winter, and this ecru colour hits the spot.

And this is some clever denim, crafted from a premium cotton and polyester blend with just the right amount of stretch to shape your body. These jeans want you to look your best.

Checks are super on-trend this season, so check out this overshirt in green for the man in your life. It’s giving rugged lumberjack meets modern man vibes.

Perfect on its own or layered over a t-shirt or sweater, this will be on high rotation in your man’s wardrobe (you’re welcome).

And let’s not forget the little ones.

Target has some gorgeous winter essentials for the whole family, and I’m adding this flannelette hooded shirt to the list for my eldest boy. Finding warm things for him to wear that make him feel like the cool tween he is, isn’t easy, but this shirt gets it 100 per cent right.
