A Sydney mum caught drink driving with her kids in the car has narrowly avoided jail.

A Sydney mother has avoided jail time and apologised after she was caught drunk behind the wheel of a car with three young children on board.

Jackie Mumbler, 37, was three times the legal blood alcohol limit when she was arrested in May, but received a suspended 13-month sentence after undergoing rehabilitation in recent months, according to 7 News Sydney.

Mumbler blew .159 when she was pulled over in West Hoxton with an eight-month old baby and two children aged three and six, at around 5.40pm on a Monday evening.

The three-year-old child was reportedly unrestrained in the back seat.

"It was a bit of a spin out," she told reporters outside Liverpool Courthouse today.

"I didn't know what was going to happen ... I  thought I was going to go to prison but I've done my rehabilitation," she said.

"It's a big big turning point for me, opened my eyes."

At the time Mumbler's licence was suspended and she was charged with a slew of offences including high-range drink driving, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, use of an uninsured vehicle and driving with a child unrestrained.

It was the second time she had been sprung intoxicated on the road in under a year.
