Australian Survivor’s Peter Conte was surrounded by his family while he watched the first episode of the season.
Many of Peter’s family members didn’t know he was gay (although his immediate family and friends knew) and Peter himself wasn’t completely sure whether he would discuss his sexuality when he first headed into the jungle.
So it was a bit of a surprise to both Peter and his family when his casual comments about it were aired within the first few minutes of the show.
“In terms of my sexuality… it was interesting because I hadn’t actually really… told everyone,” he told The Binge podcast this week. “And then the first thing I said in like the first episode is like… AK asked me if I’m homosexual, and I love AK by the way, and I said ‘yeah totes homo, totes homo’.”

“We had all this family over at the time,” he explained. “And everyone just pretended it was completely normal, and they already knew, and then when they left I got these texts saying, ‘Peter, we’re fully accepting,’ and it was lovely.”
Conte said he wasn’t sure whether he really wanted to come out on national television but he had a feeling it might happen, so he wasn’t too worried about it.
