I'll be honest with you.

When someone mentions Supernatural, I get that slightly unhinged gleam in my eye that makes people slowly back away at parties. But hear me out — the show that ran for a whopping 15 seasons (327 episodes, but who's counting?) is streaming on Stan, and now is the perfect time to fall down this particular rabbit hole.

To take you back to the beginning, I started watching Supernatural when I was just a wee lass (I'm talking nine years old, which, in retrospect, seems maybe a tad traumatic for a young child). My mum — a huge horror movie fan — had started watching the show with my older sister and I, as you do when you're nine, just wanted to be part of it. Little did I know, this desire to fit in would soon become a 15-year-long commitment.

And what a ride it's been.

The show follows brothers Sam and Dean Winchester "saving people, hunting things." Essentially, they track down monsters, demons and things that go bump in the night across America. What starts as a simple "monster of the week" format quickly spirals into an epic saga involving angels, demons, God himself and not one but several apocalypses.

Aside from accomplishing the astonishing record of being the longest-running fantasy show in US TV history, there are countless reasons why this show has captured hearts for over a decade.

Let's start with the impeccable casting, because THE CHEMISTRY between these two is everything. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have the kind of on-screen brotherhood that makes you believe they'd genuinely die for each other. Which, spoiler alert, they do. Repeatedly.

And the chemistry on screen certainly carried on behind the scenes, too. One of the best parts of watching the show is knowing how close the cast became throughout the run. Jared and Jensen were in each other's weddings. They've vacationed together. It's a real bromance. It's all very cute.

Also, do me a favour and watch the blooper reel for every single season of this show because it's pure gold.

When it comes down to it, I love how this show doesn't take itself too seriously.

One episode you're crying over a character's death, the next you're watching Dean get turned into a dog or the boys being transported into a Japanese game show. The meta episodes where they acknowledge they're on a TV show called Supernatural? Chef's kiss. But the scary episodes are genuinely scary. It's a hard balance to strike.

Not to mention, if you're a fan of fantasy and mythological lore… this show is for you. What starts as American urban legends evolves into a complex mythology that spans biblical stories, pagan gods, and alternate dimensions. It's incredible.

Also, the soundtrack. The classic rock music sprinkled throughout the show is immaculate. Kansas's 'Carry On Wayward Son' will forever give me goosebumps. If you know, you know.

While there are certainly aspects of the show that lean into the ridiculous, at its core, Supernatural is a story about family, sacrifice and the lengths we'll go to for the people we love. It's this emotional depth beneath all the monster hunting that keeps viewers coming back — and explains why people like me are still completely obsessed.

It's really no wonder the fandom is still thriving. Here's the thing about Supernatural fans — we're still here, still creating fan art, still writing fanfiction and still having heated debates about character arcs years after the show ended. The show's relationship with its fanbase was legendary, with the cast regularly appearing at conventions and the writers actually incorporating fan theories into episodes. It — and is still — insane and delicious.

If you're planning on dipping your toe into the world of Supernatural, fair warning: this show will ruin you in the best possible way. You'll find yourself emotionally invested in characters who die and come back more often than soap opera villains. You'll develop strong opinions about angel politics. You'll start salting your doorways "just in case."

But most importantly, you'll understand why, even years after it ended, Supernatural remains the comfort food of television. It's messy, it's ridiculous, it's heartbreaking, and it's absolutely perfect.

So grab some tissues, settle in with your favourite snacks, and prepare to join the ranks of people who will defend this show with their dying breath. Welcome to the family business — population: everyone who's ever fallen in love with the Winchester brothers.
